The legend that is Ivan Ashe is commentating on his last Pools game on Saturday, our household/cars will certainly miss his quirky quips, have a good retirement Ivan. clappp

He's not in the same league as Brian arundale, used to love listening to him!

Used to announce a goal and then take 30 seconds to tell you which team had actually scored.

I'm not an Ivan fan either, his commentary was dreadful - it was impossible to have any idea what was going on in the match. Ended up paying for Pools World/Player for Mark Simpson's commentary which is so much better.

I wish him well in his retirement, though - he's clearly a very nice man with a good sense of humour. Anyone know who is replacing him?

Thank God ! Always thought he had no affection for Pools whatsoever. Alistair Brownlee was a complete pain in the arse but you always knew where his loyalties lay !

Terrible commentator , befitting of the team he commentated on I suppose, but in a strange kind of way I liked him, appears to do no research on opposition and the amount of times he gets wrong, he must have eyesight that would make Mr Magoo look like a hawk.

Can't believe this, in my eyes he's an absolute legend. Love his style, love his craic, and as Bresslaw says, he's possibly the nicest, friendliest bloke I know. I'll miss him.

Not before time the bloke is a terrible commentator he cant see who the players are, he only commentates to back up the ref.

He was a qualified ref maybe that's why his eyes are not too good

I was perhaps a little harsh. I've no reason to doubt he's a nice man, I just find him a bit irritating...he often gave me the impression that he was taking the piss out of Pools...like he couldn't really be arsed with it all? Anyway, enjoy your retirement, Ivan!

I agree we've bumped into him a few times after home games he seems a really nice bloke and good craic with it.

I challenge anyone to be positive about our team and players who's watched every away game sober over a number of years he's probably retiring for his own sanity.

Sure he is a nice bloke, he sounds it, bet the car journeys to and from away games are a hoot. Remember one away game, laid in bed listening to commentary, pools as usual getting beat, playing crap, and him and Eddie Kyle started talking about Golf, nowt wrong with that during a break in proceedings, but they continued to talk about Golf, one thing leading to another. I expected them to get back to commentating on the game at any moment, but the minutes ticked by, and I kid you not, they must of spoke for a good 5 minutes about friggin Golf, it appeared they had both momentarily forgotten about the game and their roles surrounding it. It was a terrible game mind you.

I played in the first couple of Play on The Pitch jaunts and Ivan reffereed both games.

He was quite a useless ref (only semi kidding Ivan) but what a lovely and funny bloke he was.
