My only concern is when he got the acclaim last time his form dropped off entirely and got released, deservedly so.

Let's hope he's grown up since then. I still wouldn't have him as first choice centre half, think we need two more in the summer.

I can't imagine he's on big wages, he's a capable if inconsistent defender at this level and has been vital over recent weeks. I'd like to think several defenders will be brought in this summer and give him the competition he needs to prove himself against.

Last year we gave contracts to Toto, Bates and Jones. I'd sooner have kept Scott over them three.

He's been outstanding this year as has Brad Walker since he converted to centre back. Whoever comes in will have to good to displace either of them. Harrison is potentially very good.

While he will only have had half a season as centre half I'd be surprised if Walker's not sold. Laurent was sold on at the first opportunity without showing much consistency.
Gary's probably already discussing his fee!

Outstanding, easily pleased then are you?

At best he has been adequate, earlier in the season he was on the bench because of inconsistency, he has improved with Walker next to him.

i would hold off with the Harrison tattoo for a while!

Best hope he doesn't get dropped to the reserves as it seems monkeybutt is waiting for him.

ITO (Ignore The Oaf)

Harrison was the best player in bleak last few weeks under Hignett. He was at times the only one with a bit of bravery on the ball when others around didn't have the confidence to want it. It's not been easy playing in his position in the last few months. We've had three different keepers various full backs of varying quality and a whole host of partners at centre back, some selected out of a tombola shortly before kick off our options have been that limited. He's quietly played very well throughout a very difficult period and deserves credit plus his new deal. It's easy to slag players off when but he did deserve it at times last season. But in recent months it's like we've signed the player who was player of the year the season before last.

I'd expect him to struggle to get into the team next season but for that to happen we'd have to sign some players. I'm not getting my hopes up there though.

I know I keep saying it, but Newport still worry me. 7 points from their last 4 games is definitely 'catch Pools up' form.

Think its a sign of our ( lack of ) ambition that he is being retained for next season. He has had some good games, lets be honest he has had some absolute shockers as well.

I don't think there are many sides in our division where he would be first choice centre half. Certainly not in the top half of the table.

Not disappointed to see him staying, but would not have been disappointed had he left either. Can only hope the current management are able to improve him and that he matures a bit.

So not outstanding then sctatchinghead

We are a league 2 team who have been struggling form wise for 4 years so dream on if thinking people are queueing up to join us on probably the lowest wages in the entire football league, so yes Harrison is probably as good as we are going to get, Burgess Baldwin Mirfin have all been and performed better but all were loan players only and never likely to stay. I agree with PJ on current form he has been terrific and under Jones will hopefully improve further. Given all the factors in play he deserves a new contract.

Hes good enough to be part of a team to finish just above the drop zone again.

Baldwin was a proper signing, not a loanee. Whoever got him in at Pools got it very right.

Jones can only judge him on what he's seen of him this season. As for Harrison, maybe his enforced break jolted him into realising what he had lost. He got another chance and now he's taken it.

The way I see it the contract's been agreed for one of the following;

Dave Jones has seen enough of an admittedly improved Scott Harrison and sees him as a decent squad player for next season.

Jones has been told how much wiggle-room he'll have money wise this summer and realises that he won't be able to attract much better, hence getting the deal done now.

Hope it's the former but I fear it's the latter.

I like Harrison, but as has been said, I'd be underwhelmed if he was our starting centre-back come August. We're not finishing top half with him starting 30+ games.

Harrison is 23, I think we have a coaching set up and manager who can identify a player. If he keeps his head screwed he's got the potential to be a good player for me. Bates will be gone, Jones will sent to dignitas and put down so I can see him being in the market for a more experienced player as well. I really think him and Walker could form a good partnership with more experience and coaching. I don't buy that we have finished low down the table in the time he's been at the club so he's not good enough for a side doing better, we were once bottom with 9 points at Christmas with a team with players like Allon, Baker, Dalton, Honour, Knobbs and McKinnon in it.

For this league he can do a job so I'm happy he's signed. We don't have a centre half who doesn't have a mistake in him (granted, we haven't got that many BUT even the squad at the start of the season didn't have one). The likes of Burgess, Mirfin and Baldwin don't play for us anymore because they are too good for this division and unless we're nailed on promotion contenders they have no reason to stay.

I also like his aggressive nature. Can't remember the last time he got sent off...I know he has but it's been a while. I like a no nonsense, takes no shit type of centre half. Also, more importantly for a centre half he's very young and under the current regime he might make progress, who knows?

Happy he's signed and given the fuck ups the entire squad is capable of I don't get why he's getting so much flak. Of course we all want better players but that's not gonna happen over night and like I've said, at this level, I'm happy to have him.

Jack Baldwin was a great signing and I will hold my hands up to bringing him in. There are a few others you are all happy with. Just hope Harrison and Walker prove my thoughts wrong

Scotty will be a good one for the bench once Rob Jones and Bates are fit!!!

It was at Plymouth in September.

He does need to control his temper a lot better. A decent percentage of his bookings will have involved his opponent getting booked too. He has to stop losing his rag and having scuffles. I've seen a couple of games (one at Newport stands out) where he has clearly been targetted as a bit of a hothead. As a centre half he will pick up bookings from time to time anyway so he has to cut out the avoidable ones.

Was it only last Saturday when he lost it towards the end and picked up a needless booking? It was similar to that Plymouth sending off as well right at the end. The Wycombe player ended up getting his second yellow in the incident but Harrison sailed very close to straight red territory. Certaintly an area he still needs to work on but at the same time not lose his aggressive nature as we don't have enough of that in the squad at times.

Harrison can crack on for me, quite like the way he plays.

Would like to see him chip in with some more goals like, I may be wrong but havent all of his 2/3 goals been with his feet (usually decent finishes mind). A guy of his height and physical presence should really be banging some headers in from corners etc.

Probably our shite delivery like.

He must have the record for most flying blocks of shots on target ever in the world.
That's an impressive part of his game.
