This may seem inconceivable to the present generation of supporters but that guy standing on the swinging pit prop was our first source of Pools results back then.
For instance when Pools were promoted in 1968 there was a huge crowd around the Mail Office after the decisive match waiting for the match press (which at the time was actually very soon after the match).

Ah, you had to BE there.

It's no that long since you'd be waiting at the paper shop with a few others waiting for the footy mails to arrive. Funny how when you consider the only news about Pools was the Football Mail, the letters page now looks a bit lacking, but it was all we had. Then came the fanzines and we had a voice. But the arrival of social media was a revolution.
Sparse news to a flood of news, rumour and fanciful opinions, great stuff.
Mind, I still miss it.

Ah, the Green 'Un. Used to buy it to read on the bus home after the game. It only had half time scores for most of the other fixtures!

Over here in the Metropolis we had The Pink on a Saturday. Delivered to the pubs by Lawrence (who in this day and age may be described as having learning difficulties), yet especially the non league scores seemed to be the HT scores!
