Just finished me dinner and nice though it was, I can't help thinking I would have rather had a couple of Balmer's Pies.

3 Michelin Stars for Balmer's!!

I used to go mad for them as a kid.

I was knocked over by a car once and after i got checked over at the hospital my mum asked if I wanted anything and I said I just wanted a Balmers pie.

Didn't Pools win best pie award quite a few years back? Can't remember who did them then?

Pukka pies. For match day food, they weren't bad.

I remember buying a burger from a van outside Elland Road once that was so vile tasting (even after four pints) that I stuck it in the bin after a couple of mouthfuls. That was a year or so before people started getting that horrible mad cow disease...

No Mr Dawes I'm sure it was a local Pie, from a local pie supplier? Or am I wrong?

I believe they had a bakers in Stockton Road near the Burn Valley but it hasn't been there for a few years. Dunno what it was called though.

Another pie shop that was good was Kemps in Brenda Road opposite the side of the dentists on the corner. Closed in the 90's I think.
