I'm going down that London for a few days, and want to know if it's worth buying an Oyster card. I normally do the contactless debit card thing on the Tube, but our lass reckons an Oyster will be cheaper.

It can be a bit clammy on the tube during rush hour.

No
Need any more. You can now use a debit card the same way and the same price.

Off peak use the oyster card you pay a maximum £7.50 no matter how many times you use the tube in zones 1 2 3 and 4
you can do what we always do put £10 on and it will tell you when you go through the turnstiles how much you have used and once it gets to £7.50 you pay no more. The wife seems to think we have used it all the time not just off peak, but you could check when you get it just to be sure.

Isn't it only a maximum of about a tenner even if you are travelling during peak hours on zones 1-4?

Does it add the buses fares to the tube fares or combined do they max out at £9.50?

No, a daily 1-4 travel card at £12.30 covers, tube, bus, overground & national rail may be better value.
