A Johnathon Veal with the press association is tweeting that Jones has got the job?

This group of players aren't that bad a couple of the right type of players and we could be decent.

It's a serious good appointment, a real coup at this level.

I agree PJ. In particular the bloke was doing a superb job at Southampton until those false accusations against him. If he's coming here it can only be to rebuild his reputation after a few years out.

To be fair it is a great appointment.

And apart from one or two who have made some quite appalling comments about him, I think the vast majority will applaud it.

Not really he's had three jobs since he got two of those clubs promoted and the other to the FA Cup final by the way, I don't think those accusations long term have done anything to his reputation especially given they were totally false and were ages ago.

He's only managed four clubs since 1995 (which is encouraging in itself) but if you put what he's done at those clubs it's pretty impressive. At Stockport he got them promoted to and made them competitive in the Championship. He also got them to the League Cup Semi Final. At Wolves he got them promoted to the top flight for the first time in over 20 years. At Cardiff he got them to a play off final, a play off semi final and an FA Cup final for the first time since 1927. At Sheffield Wednesday he got them promoted to the Championship straight away. So I think Loan Star's Colin Todd comparison the other day is somewhat way off, and I don't think he needs to come here to rebuild his reputation in the game as it's surely excellent. To be honest I don't know why he's come here what's the catch!?

Mighty pleased with that appointment, particularly after the misgivings posted by Chip earlier in the week ( who's postings I hold in high regard, by the way ).
Bringing along a coach who has followed him to a number of clubs, which suggests they might come with a game plan.
My hope is that he can get the best out of the likes of Brad Walker; we all know there's a player in there, wouldn't it be great if he could get him playing again ?

Doubt there was another manager available of his calibre who would come to manage pools so I am very happy and excited about this appointment!

I'm not but I'd interested to know how the job has been sold to Jones and what assurances have been made to him as he doesn't strike me as someone who would join a club without doing some homework. As I said earlier he has only managed 4 clubs before us.

He's been on the dole for three years along with an awful lot of former managers, I don't think choice comes into it.

That's not really the case for someone like him he's hardly a journeyman manager who needs the money. I read a recent interview the other day where he said he's turned down jobs. It was his choice to take some time out of the game. Have a look at his CV anyone at our level or the League above and plenty of Championship clubs would be interested. Why us?

Judging how excited most fans are by the appointment I can't help feeling you're wrong there Mr I.

I doubt he's come for the money and if he's doing it because he misses the game then why would he want to get involved in a job that's going to be more stress than it's worth?

That said either the club's not in the mess we all suspect or Gary's done a right job on him in convincing him to sign.

The world is full of out of work managers but yes, Jones is good and its a surprise that he's been on the Nat King for so long. Lets move on, whatever the background its a fantastic appointment for Pools.

according to the man himself he's been doing plenty of work, just not management.

hardly 'the dole'

Don't know, I did see something that said he'd been out of work for three years but I don't want to put a downer on this appointment which is why I'm trying to move along. If I was wrong I was wrong fair enough. It happens! Not often, but it happens. ;;

Excellent appointment ! Surely he wouldn't have come to Pools, without certain 'assurances' i.e. "We won't sell Thomas/Featherstone etc, and you can spend a 'bit of money on players in January" said Gary Coxall ! :-D

PJ
You have echoed my thoughts exactly.
There,s no way at all that someone like jones could or would be hoodwinked
By anyone.
The characters he will have had to deal with in the past, There,s no way GC could
Pull the wool over his eyes.
Now lets start getting some points on the board.
And is it Kevin cooper his assisant.
clappp

Chuffed to bits and I agree he must have done his homework, noted the financial state but still took the job which is reassuring. Not like he hasn't been offered work either during his hiatus so the biggest coup Coxall could have achieved.

To be fair Todd did win what is now the Championship with Bolton so while his record isn't quite as good as Jones there are similarities there, the main one being neither had managed in the football league for a few years. It will be interesting to see how it pans out, worth a gamble that's for sure.

He is addicted to Parmo`s and the other North East teams have managers, he first tried them years ago on a commentary job, he recently broke up with his long time partner Quentin and wanted to move away.
This is the ideal time for him to get over Q and indulge in his love of Parmo`s, plus earn a few bob getting us up the league.

'Not quite as good' you reckon  I wouldn't even call him a gamble if he receives the backing and stability he needs from off the field then I can't see him doing anything but a good job. I suppose that is the big if though right now.

Weirdly Colin Todd has been at loads of Pools home games lately.

I let the first piece of horrific craic go about parmo's but look now this has to stop. We have just got a new manager, I wish I could say there's a time and a place for this type of 'banter' but I'm struggling to find one.

As a great fan of Mr Toulouse's grammatical meticulousness, I object to all this misplaced use of apostrophes. Please stop.
