Inevitable I know, but it was at the High Court this morning...

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_conf/6221674.stm

Its a sad day. I always have good memories of us playing there. We always seemed to win. Plus my frist pools game was against them when we won 4-2 I think.

Another example of how an entire town and its community, not to mention people's jobs, have been stuffed for the sake of a couple of million, when the likes of Beckham is going to earn £128m in the next five years FOR HIMSELF.
Scarborough's story is different to a lot of clubs over-stretching themselves, they were basically put into this position years ago by ex-chairman John Russell, who later took Exeter to the brink of ruin, and is now facing a jail sentence for his fiddling at Exeter.

I know that really, I never made my point well enough there - I was inferring that the people who hold the purse strings in football have lost sight of what football is and what it means to communities like Scarborough.
They honestly believe that forcing clubs out of existence will magically make all the fans of that club migrate to the premiersh-it gravy train. It won't , because these people only understand money and making money, they aren't even human.

Didn't the once make noises about buying pools out in our less selloubrious days, so they could decamp the club to scarborough and thereby get themselves into the football league. which of course they were not at that time?

It is sad, they were a more or less local team, but only really upstarts. No one in the North east will have been upset about Maidstones rapid rise and then demise. Workington, Barrow, Southport, Bradford PA....all gone out of business.
How lucky were we in the re - election and Garry Gibson days? confised

Pools are on a solid foundation, lets hope Ken Bates doesn't express an interest in IOR!!!!

There were rumours early 80s I believe about Scarborough taking over Pools - it's mentioned in Ed Law's Club History.

The whole money in football thing is getting out of hand IMO, and the amount of it sloshing around at the top of the game is skewing everything. I think it will get worse too with the new TV deal - how can a Champ club compete with a newly-relegated Prem team with a parachute payment in the tens of millions? There's not much of a trickle-down effect going on either, so there are increasing numbers of smaller clubs that are getting squeezed. While I agree Beckham can hardly be blamed for the amount of money other people are prepared to throw at him, the greed of the Prem clubs is getting bigger all the time and you feel that they'd like nothing better than pulling up the ladder behind them. It's not that long ago that Peter Kenyon was suggesting that before long we'd have two pro divisions and everyone else would be part-time, and a Spanish-style system where the big clubs have B Sides that play in the pro leagues at our sort of level is probably what the likes of Chelsea, Man Utd and others would prefer.

When you see someone like Scarborough going under for a couple of million it looks huge for the level they're at - but look a little lower down and you'll find teams like Runcorn and Spennymoor United going bust for much smaller sums, and that must be heartbreaking for their faithful few. Where's the money for the grassroots clubs like this? The answer it seems is in the pockets of the Premiership Clubs, who don't give a monkeys....

Scarborough is about 75 miles away by road,I think, and Leeds is only just over that, so what is local.

I spent most of my working life on the road, and Birmingham was on the extremities of local, as you could get there and back in a day (if you smudged the ink on the log book).

I would concur with you on our luck in the relegation years but I would not class the Garry Gibson era as one of our more fortunate periods.

When did Workington and Barrow ever go out of Business.
I blame the Scarboro demise on Jimmy Glass.

A sad day...

I don't think the reason so little fuss has been made is because of their lack of support. The reason no fuss has been made is because the media doesn't care and sadly plastic fans only give a toss about the Preimiership these days.

It must be devestating for them. But they're planning on forming a new team...so good luck to them.

it happened when Vince barker was chairman...Scarborough were the up and coming team in non league football and from what I recall there was talk of them buying Pools out and transferring the club to Scarborough...and renaming the club...er, Scarborough?
Not onlywould they be buying a club, but a place in the league without the bother of all that promotion nonsense

Drove past the oven chip arena yeaterday afternoon and the TV crews were busy interviewing someone.
