As some of you may be aware in 2013 my little boy was born with a serious heart condition called Hypoplastic left heart syndrome. This essentially means that only the right side of his heart is functional, and as a result he has required numerous surgeries, some open heart, some otherwise. He has a long way still to go but is currently doing extremely well and this is testament to the team at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle. From the nurses to the surgeons the full team are fantastic and the care given to my little boy and countless others is nothing short of remarkable. The hospital treats Children from all across the north east and some from further afield and perform miracles on a daily basis.

In order to help them to continue doing such good work the hospital are supported by a charity called "Children's Heart Unit Fund" or CHUF. CHUF raise funds to not only buy equipment for the hospital but also to improve the experience of patients and parents. CHUF fund clown doctors to visit the hospital to entertain the children, they raised cash to build a brand new play and sensory room to help both entertain and stimulate Children who can be in in hospital for months at a time. The also raised funds to, along with the sick children's trust, build a new "home from home", an on site accommodation block for parents and families of patients meaning they can be close to their children at all time, totally free of charge.

Before Jack was born I had no idea of the fantastic work done both by the hospital and the charity, we have such an amazing facility essentially right on our doorstep. I continue to try to raise funds to give something back for the help given to me and my family receive as well as the amazing treatment my son continues to receive. I will be running the Great North Run in September, I aim to get my 2 year total to over £2k.

I have posted a couple of links below, one to the charities website so you can see what they are all about, one to a link to Jack's story and finally one to my just giving page. If anyone would like to donate, no matter how small, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
