the wife had her accounts wiped out about 3 months ago from her Barclays bank someone got her details from a cash machine in Newcastle and also passed her telephone banking security to transfer her savings to her current account to withdraw that. She got all her money back and a letter saying sorry for the inconvenience but no explanation how it happened.

on Sunday she had her card refused at teeside park and rang the helpline and was told there was a problem there end and not to worry, she red again yesterday and it happened again so we went to the bank again today and her accounts had been emptied again !

someone in London got on her telephone banking again as her and said she had moved to London and her card was broken and can she needed a new one so a card was sent to a flat in Tottenham and they then asked to raise her overdraft from 200 to 1500 !

they have then went in the bank withdrew money and also used cash machines to get money to a total of 2150 and also went on a shopping spree with the card to the tune of well over 2500 !

to get done once is unlucky but twice !!!

Shit fraud detection that like, having been done once you'd have thought there would have been more locks put on it.

I once cancelled and destroyed my card because I smelt a rat off, and it still got frauded. And the fraud was a good six months later, so they didn't "nick in while the door was open".
To be fair, they refunded the 800 quid straight away but still hit me with an overdraft charge.

How useless is a bank that processes a payment with a cancelled card?

Santander always text me with an autorisation code if I request to change overdrafts or move/withdraw large amounts.

Im pretty sure they rang me aswell when I tried to pay for something in Manchester. Think it was cos id used my card for petrol in Hartlepool and then two hours later for petrol in Manchester and they wanted to double check it was me.

My business got defrauded by someone phoning in pretending to be me and transferring money to a bogus supplier. They had got information from Companies House and somehow gleaned enough other information to convince the call handler that it was me to transfer the money. They then phoned in two minutes later and tried to do the same thing again. This time the call handler was suspicious and they rang off. Trouble is the bank never informed me of the this activity and I only picked it up when I saw some strange payees on my internet banking and checked transactions. The bank did repay me the money straight away but the only action they took was to put my address on an 'at risk of fraud' register so I may have problems if I apply for a loan or new credit card. The banks seem incapable of running effective checks when people phone in, perhaps voice recognition technology will resolve this problem. As advised I would suggest a change of bank and card so that these old account numbers are not circulated within the criminal fraternity. Given TWH's comment above it was Santander that I had the problem with.

Seems to be a bit of a mixed bag here with Santander. I used my card once many moons ago to buy something on iTunes, the next day (a Sunday) I get a call from Santander Fraud team to say my card had been used in London to buy 2 O2 top up cards (I don't use O2).. after they had bought one top up card the daft twats decided to buy another straight after, so Santander cancelled the card immediately, which was just as well because then the card was used to try and buy a tele in London, something in France I forget what it was and even a fuckin motel room in Ohio!! It's clear the card details, once verified as active are then just released into some black hole on the internety thing for all and sundry to use.

I also bank with HSBC but never had any problems with them.
