I'd probably go for the same, only with Laurent in for Featherstone or Deverdics.

My two hopes for this season are Laurent and Orrell. Orrell didn't do owt against Billingham but was involved in everything and always seemed to be in the right places so with games and fitness he'll hopefully be one to watch.

One of the most cringeworthy words ever.

I would probably go for the same, but have Woods alongside Featherstone instead of Deverdics.

However, I do also want to see more of Laurent as he has impressed me in the few times I've seen him.

Watching the interviews of new players on Pools Player, Alessandra says we will get the best out of him through the middle - where did he play for York last year, winger?

I think the back 5 picks itself - Featherstone and Thomas are sure starters, I would guess Deverdics is likely to start, but the 3 remaining spaces are up for grabs. Depending on formations, we have 2/3 even 4 or 5 players who could all slot in. Woods/Hawkins/Laurent/(Walker) fighting for one midfield spot. Allesandra/Oates/Orrel fighting for a wide spot. Allesandra/Paynter/Amond/Oates/Orrel fighting for a strikers roll.

It's gunna be a tough choice for Hignett - but it's a good headache to have.

I could have a go at guessing what Hignett's starting line up will be from the sides he's put out in friendlies, but at the minute I don't have any sort of preferred team because I've only seen the new players in action once, on the TV. Very pleased though that Thomas and Woods signed new deals; they could both have great seasons if they're lucky with injuries.

It looks like Pools will have a better balanced squad than Ronnie's job lot at the start of last season, but will they score more goals? Where's the midfield ball winner? Does the side lack pace (apart from Thomas?).

Likewise, I have pretty much no idea where Pools will finish the season. I was full of optimism at the start of last season, so once bitten, twice shy! Faith in Hignett/Fleming's coaching ability says somewhere above half way...

Squads announced for the Guisborough and Seaham games. Thomas and Orrell not fit, Hignett going to the Guisborough game.

Swap Magnay for the triallist Donnelly, put Thomas back in and I think you've got Higgy's current starting 11.

Pools v Guisborough: Carson, Donnelly, Bates, Nsiala, Carroll, Featherstone, Woods, Hawkins, Alessandra, Paynter, Amond.
Subs: Dudzinski, Pollock, Green.

Pools v Seaham Red Star: Bartlett, Magnay, Harrison, Jones, Richards, Walker, Deverdics, Laurent, Smith, Blackford, Oates.
Subs: Martin, Nearney, Richardson

A few people with things to prove this season in the team going to Seaham. In particular Walker and Oates.

Oates just seems to getting played out of position and will really have to up his game to get ahead of the 3 main strikers.
Walker needs big improvement but that's been discussed to death. He's got the perfect mentor in Hignett so will have no excuses if he's without a club this time next year.

I'm watching colchester now, and they are looking very poor against a weak crystal palace side.
If they play like this on the first game of season we should have a easy win

As is usual at this time of year, may I remind the board of what happened after Newcastle stuffed us 6-0 at the Vic in a 2003 pre-season friendly.
