Need a bit of help, I'm wanting to control a pivot table but using a separate drop down list..If that makes sense? So when I select something from the drop down the data on the pivot table will change resulting in a linked chart changing.

I know I can do it using a slicer but wanted it a bit neater.

Or actually in simpler terms is it possible to change a slicer to a drop down?

Or link the slicer selection to a formula?

Avoid the pivot table completely and find the data you need using an index match, a sumif or a countif. If you use a lookup table you can then have a dropdown of anything you want with the results displayed however you want.

I tend to avoid pivot tables as much as I can, they're clunky and can only handle so much data.

Cheers I'll give it a whirl tomorrow. Aye I'm trying to avoid a pivot table as it's going to be for a dashboard so a lot of data behind it. Pivots are OK to quickly find something but not ideal.

Pivots are only good for counting and for people who don't know how to use excel. If you're looking to pull out individual bits of data based on criteria then an index match is your best bet. It lets you find data in any array based upon it's x and y label. You can then calculate on that if needed.

I'm shocked and amazed that someone is actually using Excel for its intended purpose rather than because they don't know how to do tables in Word.
