Deep Purple Newcastle city hall 1970.

A very good year for heavy rock gigs.

Saw Uriah Heep either late 80's or probably early 90's. Mick Box waddled onto the stage in cowboy boots and a severely stretched shirt that that could barely contain his gut !

At The 1970 gig at Boro hall Heep were actually the support band for the American group Sha na na who were Shite. Mick Box and Dave Byron the singer were both stood at the side of the hall watching them and had a bigger audience around them. Both great characters chatting and signing body parts. Sadly Dave Byron later died from Drugs and the band never seemed quite the same with the new singers.

that was a great line-up for Heep with Hensley,Thain and Kerslake, they created a lot o memorable songs

I THINK it was Chumbawamba a looooong time before Tubthumping - my brother knows one of the band. Probably late eighties I reckon....

Never been massively into going to gigs.

The V festivals in Leeds in the nineties were decent though - The Prodigy were excellent from what I remember

White Spirit supported by Disguise St Cuthberts church Hall!

Early ones included Toyah, Squeeze, Adam and the Ants, Costello, Boomtown Rats...all the usual new wavers.

Was very lucky to be around at the start of The Smiths and saw them at least 6 times very early on.

Squeeze and Costello are by far the acts I've seen the most..around 30 times each I think.

Of recent bands I've seen my faves are The Gaslight Anthem.

Going to see ABC in The Autumn 34 years after the last time I saw them in 1982...the biggest gap I've ever gone between bands gigs...although I haven't seen The Fall since 1994 so doubtless that record will be beaten one day.

I was at that as well, not first gig though. I have a vague misty memory of drinking with the band before the gig - Mr Toulousse has a better memory than me so could confirm / deny.

Fantastic gig though - was up in the circle it was literally bouncing.

My sad admission is first gig was Gary Numan at City Hall. My excuse was I was offered the ticket for free plus petrol money if I drove. Spent the majority of the gig in the bar. The bar was rammed all night.

The Farm supported by Top at Newcastle, early 90.s. From what I remember Top were better than the Farm, although the Farm were good.

I saw that Fall Bierkeller gig too. Wasn't it quite near The Mayfair?? The gigs at Newcastke University back in the day were in quite a few different venues ( we even played at a couple mid 80s) until they settled on the main one. I always liked The Riverside.

Could have been Rockies/Rockshots. Think I saw Tenpole Tudor there too.

I saw them around the same time at the aptly named Riley Smith Hall in Leeds. They played an entirely different set of not very recognisable material, most of which ended up on Room To Live. Very little concession to "hits". Support was The Laughing Clowns, who were The Saints minus Chris Bailey and were excellent.

Pixies at Newcastle Mayfair on the Bossanova tour, 1990. Watched Barkmarket the support against the front barrier which collapsed when Pixies came on. They walked straight back off. Took ages to sort the barrier out and get them back on.....great first gig though

My sister took me to see Freddie and the Dreamers at Stockton Odeon, 15th May 1964. (turns around slowly and walks away in shame).
