1978 now that I come to think of it, closely followed by The Boomtown Rats, The Jam, Elvis Costello, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Buzzcocks (supported by Joy Division) and many more.

Ride, Middlesbrough Town Hall, 1991. Supported by an unknown band at the time called Verve, before they became The Verve. Just missed the number 10 so had to get a 227, meaning we missed Verve. Ride were good though. I'd never had tinnitus before and was really worried I would have damaged hearing for life.

Used to go to the Studio every Saturday afternoon and they always had bands on, as well as a mini festival put on by a lad a few years older than me at school called EMS Fest, but my first proper gig was Bowling for Soup - 2002 at Middlesbrough Town Hall.

Saw Uriah Heep either late 80's or probably early 90's. Mick Box waddled onto the stage in cowboy boots and a severely stretched shirt that that could barely contain his gut !

I was at that one! They definitely had the amps cranked to 11 that night, couldn't hear much apart from ringing in my ears for a couple of hours afterwards.

First trip to City Hall was a bit earlier in 1970 for The Byrds. I don't think they ever played much in the UK so it was brilliant to see them in the North-East.

That line up was a cracking live band -the set was the same as as the live album off the Untitled double, so I've got a souvenir of sorts

I was at the bowling for soup gig you mentioned as well. Seem to remember Farse supported was another good one.

I was supposed to see blink 182, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World, Sum 41 & Alkaline Trio in 2001 but 9/11 attacks meant they wouldn't fly out at the time.

Farse did support them. I've got a feeling Capdown supported them on one of those gigs but I might be getting confused with another gig.

In fact I think I am getting confused as Capdown supported a band called Jesse James around 2002ish.

I think it may have been Jesse James and Farse at that gig. I start to get confused with those UK Ska punk bands around then because I feel like I seen them in so many time in so many venues. Jesse James, Capdown, Farse, Spunge, Lightyear etc

Good times though.

Ha you're right there like, just endless duplicates of Ska bands at the time but all good fun when you're 13/14. I've seen all those bands you've mentioned but it feels like i've seen them all at the same gig. There was another whose names escapes me but I think they had the word "uncle" in the name.

At The 1970 gig at Boro hall Heep were actually the support band for the American group Sha na na who were Shite. Mick Box and Dave Byron the singer were both stood at the side of the hall watching them and had a bigger audience around them. Both great characters chatting and signing body parts. Sadly Dave Byron later died from Drugs and the band never seemed quite the same with the new singers.
