I couldn't hear that well from where I was sitting (for example when they announced "Milner" I heard "Hitler"), but did I correctly hear Lothar Matthaus taking the piss out of Woy for bringing Milner on?

I'm not one of the Milner haters but even I could see it was completely the wrong substitution against Russia.

As for starting him against Wales, that surely can't happen. If we stick with the same side we should walk the game, Stirling can't play that badly again, can he?!

What's the point in taking a squad with around 11 strikers if we're going to worry about the opposition rather than play to our strengths? If anything we should be adding Vardy to the lineup against Wales.

We shouldnt be worrying about the opposition at all. Wales has only one player that would get in our team and two maybes Williams and Ramsey. We should start the most attacking team possible and hammer them. I am sick of England worrying about the opposition and trying to defend what they do, bugger that play the best people in the best positions they play in their club and sod egos and giving people tickle bellys

I don't think brining Milner on against Russia was the wrong thing to do. I've said before the only situation I can think Milner would be useful off the bench is if you're winning with a few minutes to go and you simply want to close the game down. Now of course that isn't what happened and Milner did not cover himself in glory for Russia's equaliser but that doesn't invalidate the substitution. I think most people would have said fair enough at the time.

However, before anyone starts getting upset, I would like to state that I completely agree that starting him against Wales would be utterly ridiculous. Compo is right. If England play to their strengths they should absolutely hammer Wales.

I agree. It bores the arse offa me. They are both winding each other up, which is fine by me as I realise that some people get off on that kind of behaviour.
However the way to stop it is to have a word with BOTH of them in private, not to single out one of them in PUBLIC like Mr Fatty does. If that fails then start banning WITHOUT public stick wielding. It's a case of some people know how to use power and others don't. Just my opinion like.

He is just one of those absolute average players that seem to be loved by the english football establishment.

He does nothing very well. Like one of the pundits said, he will get 6.5 out of 10 every single game.

Except he absolutely doesn't. Quite often he'll put in performances not worth that but this phrase has lingered.

I've always been very critical of him because he perhaps unfairly symbolises everything that's held back English football - this emphasis on graft over skill and guile.

For Liverpool this season he's been very effective and yet whenever he plays for England he is consistently one of the worst players on the pitch. It's maddeningly frustrating because if he could replicate his performances for Liverpool he'd fill a whole in this squad.

Instead, even when played in his supposed preferred position (see the Holland game when he was captain), we get such unremarkable, often wasteful performances that aren't notable enough to bring him in for any deserved criticism and so instead we're treated to this 'you know what you're gonna get' drivel.
