Not a bad game to watch so far for the neutral. Both sides had a few good chances, and for the first time this tournament an injured corner flag.

Germany have gone a fair way backwards in two years on this evidence. If the games I've seen England have been the best performance wise, how didn't we win that match?

I agree up to a point PJ, but just have the feeling Germany will "grow" into the competition and be a threat later on.

They don't have a centre forward. I'm not sure how team will do well without one. They will no doubt reach the latter stages, they always do, but they are nowhere near the team they were at the World Cup.

Ukraine offered very little throughout the match. The difference of course is whilst we dominated a poor Russia but still ended up drawing, Germany have dominated a poor Ukraine and won 2-0.

They looked a little shaky at the back but Ukraine offered so little in attack it's difficult to draw any firm conclusions.

Ukraine are a poor team so are Russia, first half though they had chances. Russia didn't until a speculative header 30 seconds from the end, I'm not saying Germany are rubbish they just aren't as good as they were in Brazil by quite a distance.

I think not having a genuine centre forward on the pitch, as you said, will hinder them. Perhaps Gomez will be given a go at some point.

I wouldn't say Ukraine are a poor team, they were passed off the pitch but they definately had more to them than Russia did.

Ok Germany weren't at their best but they controlled most of the game and as has been said they didn't have a forward.

They were poor tonight I thought (not as poor as Russia, I agree) and gave Germany far too much time on the ball. They perked up towards the end of the first half but one or two shaky moments aside I thought Germany were worth the 2-0 win.
