Surely everyone could see it was crying out for pace? He took Stirling off, who did nowt, but instead of sticking on someone who would push Russia back he brought on Milner?!

Regardless of the lack of sensible subs we should have won faily comfortably. Now we've got the easiest game of the group out the way we need to start taking chances and stop making horrendous mistakes. Hart is so liable to make errors.

Hodgsons love of rooney though, to the point that he will pick him in almost any position, or cahnge formation, just for rooneys benefit is pretty sick.

It will either work out very well for Hodgson or will be the reason he gets sacked.

As it turned out rooney did ok but I would move him up in place of sterling and put wilshire where Rooney was.

I know its a one off game and anything can happen but if we are scared of wales then we are really in trouble. They are bang average and were lucky to beat slovakia. Who are also bang average.

Out of the 4 games played so far England have performed the best.

I thought in the second half that Rooney almost was playing left wing, I think he'd been moved out slightly to cover for Stirling who didn't do a thing right.

I thought Rooney did as well as most last night though, Walker and Dier the standout players. If the Colonel's suggested line up is the only way to get Stirling out the team I'm all for it.

I thought England played a good game and could consider themselves slightly unfortunate not to have won the match. I thought the formation worked well but I would have taken Sterling off earlier. Ultimately though England did score with him on the pitch and the reality of the situation is that it was poor defending at the death that has cost England. An area of their game that many have already said will do for them at the tournament.

It will be interesting to see how they fare against Wales who will surely offer more pressure in the middle of the pitch that Russia did last night. For large chunks of the game it was debatable whether Russia's midfield were actually present. But, as has been said, England should be too good for Wales.
