The youngest has broken out in chicken pox. We've smothered him in calamine lotion, but does anyone know of anything else that will ease his suffering?

Acqueous calamine cream, 2.50 from a pharmacy, doesn`t dry out like calomine, both my two had it recently and worked wonders, also bathe in warm water with bicarb of soda, helps also.

Bicarbonate Soda in the bath helps, takes away the itching.

The missus said put the aqueous cream/calamine lotion in the fridge. She also said aqueous cream is better.

Also do NOT give ibuprofen (Nurofen is the same stuff in case you didn't know) as this can increase the chance of scarring. Use liquid paracetamol (if you're looking to get their temperature down) instead (eg Calpol)

PIN use paracetamol pain relief but do not use ibuprofen. See patient leaflet in package of ibuprofen products.

This worked a treat with ours in addition to the calamine.

Do people still do that thing where they get infected kids to play with their kids, in order to 'get it over with'?

I remember having to go to some kid's house to play in order to get chicken pox, and it seemed like half the school was in there.

Is this to catch chicken pox or to cure it?
