If your computer uses Windows 7 or 8.1 and you don't want it changing to Windows 10 this might be of interest....

I'm on Windows 7 and unbeknownst to me, the wankers that are Microsoft were going to automatically upgrade my system to Windows 10 (despite continually ignoring/cancelling upgrade requests) - I was mid-browse when it just logged me off and was 'preparing for Windows 10 upgrade' so I had to do a hard reboot (turn it off with the button on the laptop)

Anyway, did a bit of research and the following link has sorted the problem:

https://www.grc.com/never10.htm

I'm not a computer guru but I know my way around. Just download the program - it will appear in your downloads folder, double click the icon and it will come up with one of the 4 boxes shown on the site. Just click on 'Remove Win10 Files' and 'Disable Win10 Upgrade' if shown and that's it. Sorted.

Hope this helps.

After getting pester messages for weeks about upgrading, I eventually got a different message to say they were going to upgrade at a certain time unless I specifically told them not to. Just let it go in the end.

Can't say I've noticed much difference except that sometimes, when I click 'close', I now get a message to ask if I want to 'leave this page'. In what circumstances would you click 'close' and not want to leave the page??

I run W10 on four PCs - it's good except from time to time when it's in the middle of an update. Muuuuch better than W8.

I use W10 at work, it's decent enough. Use a Mac at home, prefer OSX.

How many windows though? Does the crack divide the screen into more than one?

There's a director at our place who came over to me recently and slipped into conversation with no hint of irony that she is an expert in Powerpoint. Yes, an expert in dragging some pictures about and applying animations.

Fucking comical.

Any director that uses powerpoint to get a message across should be shot.

And any company that employs the above must be shit.

Does this big science company ever pull you up for lack of punctuation or do they all do it?

I am massively dyslexic I am a molecular biologist not an English teacher. And thankfully the company I work for don't look at people in that way.

Good to hear it. More companies should be like that.

Powerpoint has it's advantages but there is literally nothing worse than sitting through a powerpoint presentation for hours on end.

What do I have to do?

8 does that as well. I wish they'd never binned XP, it was spot on.

yeah, she's managing but its pretty confusing for an Autistic person.

If is impossible to do she will get used to it but I'd rather it was a bit more "familiar" for her.

Elvis, if it's a "clean" install of Windows 10 (i.e. not an upgrade from 7, or 8.1) then I'm afraid you can't "downgrade" back to 8 or 7.

If it's an upgrade then this details what to do to rollback:

If you know how to or have a computer guru friend who also, ahem, has a copy of Windows XP (a legit one of course paid with real cash Mr Microsoft) you could wipe the hard drive and boot up with XP (you'll need to get copies of all the drivers for the stuff on your computer as well and put these on a disc).

That might all sound like a massive ball ache but for someone who knows how to do it, it really isn't a big deal.

My cousin is forever wiping his work mates PC and starting again......his work mates machine is regularly unusably fooked thanks to the sites he likes to visit. Those ones that also require the closure of curtains and tissues or equivalent being close at hand.

Websites that show powerfully emotional films? Sometimes referred to as tear seekers?

I think that was a clever attempt at a fancy dress but can't remember what as during the years 18-25 most of what I did was a blur. How I got threw college let alone uni is anyone's guess.
