Ticket prices to be reduced for Armed Forces, £150 for a season ticket with reduction on match days too.
IOR would never have entertained such an idea.

I was concerned by the new owners at first but have to say they've done nothing but good in their time here.

Whilst I think any discount for armed forces should be applauded, in my experience it would have to be a very strange posting to be able to enjoy alternate weekends at home. Great offer that few will be able to take up

They're also going to reduce the on the day prices for them too. Either way, it's a fantastic gesture.

Catterick and Leeming not exactly far away and a lot a military personnel drive home every weekend particularly young, single ones. It's not a huge market admittedly but if it persuades those who might not make every game to buy a season ticket then it's an easy choice for the club.

I see absolutely no reason for armed forces to have a discount.

It seems strange to me, too. You would think discounts would be better assigned to people in financial need.

I think a fair point has been made that they could be forced to work any given weekend and miss several games or worse still be deployed for 6 months with little notice. The hit would be easier take on a £150 season ticket.

Surely anyone can understand it's a simple act of appreciation for their service. Yank military get free entry to Disney World and much more besides.

Would make more sense in our town to let the unemployed in for a discount rate .

No, do you get shot at in your job? Or run the risk of triggering an IED?

They get paid for their job they know the risks. If they're on a 6 month tour they are hardly going to buy a season ticket..Also there are not many ieds or terrorists around in North Yorkshire

They do get paid for their job, not overly so but that's another debate, but this kind of gesture is not because they need financial help. It's simply to show thanks. Not sure why that's so hard to understand.

Must be hell putting your life on the line every day, those paper cuts you may encounter, the dreaded staple and of course repetitive strain injuries from the keyboard

Wonder when a charity is set up for `Save the Servoes`?

Many back office types in the military are also exposed to such heinous risks (Especially the ones who could attend every other week ). Not all are the frontline soldiers everyone seems to think they are these days.

Also, whilst soldiers work is certainly very risky, they aren't the only ones doing a service that can be dangerous. Police officers and fire fighters often put themselves at danger, as do numerous other emergency services. Teachers, social workers and care workers are regularly assaulted as well. They don't get any extra thanks.

Hard to argue with someone who sees teaching and social care as dangerous as the military.

I don't imagine those are the types that attend Hartlepool games to be fair. I think the offer is aimed more towards junior ranks, the types that can be on as little as 18k serving in some of the worst places known to man. Obviously it's not limited to the them but chances are it'll only be used by them.
You could argue that some students or pensioners have little need for discount too.

I certainly commiserate greatly with the young soldiers who have been used as fodder in a series of duplicitous foreign policies. But, no, I’m not grateful to them for putting their lives at risk in doing that. Who should be? It’s all a total disaster and should be stopped, not applauded.

And as for giving them a discounted season ticket in ‘appreciation’, what could be less appropriate? It’s very very odd, imo.

And in case anyone needs reminding, the Chilcot report is about to be published soon.

It happened and will happen again when despots around the world need displacing, a report costing loads of money could be used elsewhere, you know like Africa where they need wells and medicine.

But I`m sure you Guardian readers would prefer to read the report and debate its merits at bridge club :hand:

What a thoroughly depressing thread. What started out as something which praisesd the positive actions of the club has people scoring points and racing to the bottom of the 'undeserving' league.

The club should rightly be applauded for this gesture, I don't think any more needs to be said.

When it comes to teachers and social workers, I would love to see some proper statistics about how many of them per hundred are assaulted every year in the course of their duties. Obviously the death rate will be nothing like the military, but I bet the instances of injury will be pretty high. All public servants, like the military putting themselves on the line in the interests of the country and society as a whole.
