Firstly an apology.

I unreservedly apologise for starting a thread about a band that most folk have heard of, breaking many many bunker rules, also more specifically mentioning a 90's band from Manchester that I know is very uncool for this place.

Right, now thats out of the way:

I love their new song. And am serioursly looking forward to the album.

I know I should be into bands that have names like:

Spunk Bag
Fanny batter and the ring piece
European slugs
Special needs in the dishwasher.
Sporting Flowers.

or whatever other.

Well I like it. And I like the Stone Roses.

Shoot me.

Is it even a song? It's just a few naff phrases and a riff. It's a good riff, but it's the only thing that sticks in the memory. That apart it's not a million miles away from the fucken Seahorses. The sort of track that would appear on a hastily cobbled together indie compilation from the early 90s, populated by bands eternally grateful that the first Roses album led to a rush of interest in Northern vaguely jangly guitar bands. Disappointing.

You're such a music snob by the way ;)

That's a bit mean. The song might have touched a chord deep in The Colonel's psyche, and now you've ruined everything.

Wouldn't dare like The Stone Roses, rule on the Bunker is you're only allowed to listen to bands that have named themselves using http://www.bandnamemaker.com/

It's horrific, truly horrific.

The riff is nicked wholesale from Squid Lord by The Fall and the lyrics are from Dogtanian...

Quite like it, I imagine listening to it in the summer with a beer in my hand and the sun on my back will be a very pleasurable experience.

Fuck all this dreary indie tripe and fly the globe. Listen to Bossa Nova (the genre, as well as me), Italian soundtracks, late sixties sunshine pop, and Pizzicato 5 and you'll be happier person*
And I could spend hours on that bandnamegenerator thingy.

It's decent but Squire's solo is outstanding. New album looks promising.

I missed them first time round and never caught up. (Had our Livvy in their "Glory Years"..people who know me will know why I didn't have much time or interest in music then!)

I "Re-joined" the Music Scene just in time for Suede, Supergrass, Teenage Fanclub et al.

Did I miss owt?!

BTW, it's music for 45-year old Arm-Swinging not nice people who rage around Idols wearing Pretty Green t-shirts. HTH.

Harsh. I am not 45.

I agree about the type of people generally though.

Its a shame because the Stone Roses deserve better than that.

I think they are very talented musicians, though I have doubts about Ian Browns voice.

Didn't mind the song, big fan of the Stone Roses and thought it was a reasonably enjoyable song. But nothing special.

Hoping the album has a few gems on as I imagine there'll be a few songs like this new one that are a bit average. Difficult to release a new album over 20 years on from the last and it be considered anything like the previous ones.

Scary thing about the comment about it being 20 years ago is that it is 20 years since their last album which in fact was their 'comeback' album after what felt like ages at the time from the first 2.

Where does the time and the years go!!!

Their debut album is one of my favourite albums of all time. I seen highlights of them a few year back playing a festival and Ian Brown sounded dreadful live, a few lads I know are off to see them next month at Heaton Park.

Spike Island is a fantastic film as well.

I saw quite a lot of them first time round with being at Salford University and was (still am) a huge fan.

But that new single is godawful.

I think it's a bit of a 'grower'...banal lyrics aside, it's a half decent tune, but if it was any other band it wouldn't get half the airplay it's getting.

I own a Pizzicato 5 album (the one with the single 'happy sad') and I'm a right miserable bugger!

I have lots of them bought cheap(ish) off Amazon. Unfortunately, because the song titles are all in Japanese, I have lots of the songs twice! Those crafty Japs repackaged stuff for overseas markets and I don't know what the fuck I'm buying from Yokohama or wherever. Having said that, they're all great and give me odd moments of joy in my sea of Pools induced misery.

Mr Bossa Nova

You've reminded me of my acid jazz and 60's soundtrack collection. I've had a day of JTQ and Lalo Schifrin soundtracks etc. Nice.

Love "The Cincinnati Kid" soundtrack by Schifrin, especially the Ray Charles sung title song with the incredible soulful howl at the end. https://youtu.be/iKx8gdyhOUk.
There's just so many Italians, Morricone, Umiliani, Piccioni, Cipriani etc. It's not a question of where to start but where to stop!
