Can anyone else see them struggling in the second division next year?

No, way too much financial clout for that to happen. I don't think they'll walk the league like last time but they won't struggle, Aston Villa might.

I doubt they'll be able to keep hold of as many of there players as they did last time, not sure they'd want to either mind. I think they'll probably come straight back up again but not as straight forward.

Burton Albion in the same league as Newcastle, who'd have saw that coming a couple of years ago

I remember posting a few months ago saying that according to the Mags at work there was a good chance they would be going down, and a lot of folk saying " Don't be daft they are way too big a club/got too many good players to go down " etc.

Both Newcastle and Villa have traditionally been exceptionally well supported clubs, Newcastle's average attendance is among the best in the country, and in terms of revenue they are still in the top 20 in Europe I think- though they probably wont be when this new television deal comes in.

The bottom line though is the game is now all about money, Newcastle have it, but the owner wont spend it. Or more importantly wont spend any of his own and runs the club like his other businesses, in the best interests of Mike Ashley.

While he owns the club they will never achieve their potential. They should, in theory, piss that league next season. In reality I don't think it will be straightforward, though I suspect attendances will still comfortably top 40,000.

They spent £80 million on players this season and more than any other club in Europe during the January window. I agree about them achieving potential while someone like him owns the club but interestingly not many of them mention that they might not even be in business without Ashley's money. I thought looking at the players they'd signed they would be ok but then I saw them play against Leicester in January and witnessed quite how puss poor and devoid of fight and leadership they were. He needs to sack the people making football decisions and hire some people who have a clue.

With the likes of the Mags, Villa and whichever 3 fail in the playoffs all in the Championship I can see it being more competitive and exciting than the Premier League...again.
If Norwich don't sack their manager I can see them being up there too.

Hard to believe all the above also join Forest, Leeds and Blackburn and I bet Burton are relishing some big gates next year.

I have always enjoyed the Championsip is a better league to watch rather than the overpaid underworked pansies in the Premier League.
In the Premier League the majority of teams have no chance in playing in Europe, quite happy to finish mid table to keep the Sky money rolling in.
In the Championship you have at least 10 teams competing for promotion.

They did spend some decent money but not on the areas they needed it and still made £30 odd million profit. As is the financial gain of being in the Premier League, Championship clubs are throwing more and more money at it with transfers around the £10 million mark which is ridiculous for the second flight but I'd be surprised is Ashley is willing to spend like they probably need.

Sort of ironically I can see it helping them in the long run. Short term they will have to get a new manager and cut the wage bill, bearing in mind there will be players with relegation clauses in their contracts. Also those players with International ambitions will want top flight football. Ashley will have to take a loss on some signings, but again replace them with players who have fight.

New squad needed for the Championship. However they will have the Wonga (see what I did there) to purchase. If all gel then more or less straight back up.

interrupted a very strange conversation today between a Sunderland and Newcastle supporter who were basically saying the promotion and relegation system should be scrapped into the PL as both them clubs and others are too big to go down. The teams that were mentioned that shouldn't be in the PL were Watford and Bournemouth [as they only get 14000 fans]. TV money, viewing figures and the games changed were all used against me when trying to tell them they are talking shit.
Genuinely concerned for English football if this is what the average Premier League supporter thinks.

yet they are all pleased for Leicester stpid

I see the Penshaw Monument has been turned red and white tonight to celebrate Sunderland's achievement of retaining its Premiership status.

100% true, no joke, fact.

That is more cringeworthy than a great escape mutant Ronnie Moore tattoo. Absolutely embarrassing stuff they are fourth bottom of the League and have had another in a series of dog shit seasons. The Geordies might be arrogant and deluded but the Mackems are seriously one eyed and only seem to care about beating one club. It's like comparing shit and shite both should be so much better.

North East news tonight showing the Sunderland fans streaming out of the ground a whooping and a hollering and beating thrir chests in triumph..... just a second, they escaped relegation at the last minute.
I don't believe in 'Great escapes', I want to know how you get in that position in the first place.
I find the irony of Martinez getting the sack while Allerdyce is being hailed the hero, all a bit much.

I've heard that one a few times. A cosy love in where the big boys can slam the gate shut and bask safely in the warm glow of their incestuous closed shop and rake the money in without fear of it ever drying up.

Isnt that what that 'lovely lovely person' Gartside wanted at Bolton?

Newcastle and Arsenal are the only clubs in the Premier League not to have relegation clauses in their players' contracts. Absolute madness if they are paying Jonjo Shelvey the reported £80k a week!

In fairness to Allardyce he has done a good job to keep them up. Their squad is pretty piss poor but with a few decent signings, getting the best out of Defoe and instilling belief, he's managed to keep them up.

Martinez on the other hand has taken Everton backwards with a reasonably good squad too, in what is not the strongest league going at the minute. I like the bloke but he had to go, 5 home wins all season is asking for trouble.
