Shame about Jones, thought he always looked a good defender and comfortable on the ball.

Fear not. Andrew Boyce has just been released by Scunthorpe.

I always thought he was half decent as well but there you go. The management team will see him in training every day and have a better picture than we have. At least it shows that Hignett has ambition and means business making this the seventh player to be released, possibly more. We are going to need at least four in as replacements so far I would think.

Hignett was in the papers yesterday saying the 5-0 at Plymouth had made him reassess the scale of the team rebuilding he needed to do. Can see Rob Jones being released as well.

Can't disagree - even with the 3 loanees in the starting 11 there's been precious little strength in depth - ideally you'd want minimum 14-15 outfield players who are all of a roughly comparable standard to achieve anything.

Dan Jones is a bit unlucky being the only one of the local lads who've come up through the ranks who has been released- or rather, a few of them have been lucky to be kept on.

Have to say Dan Jones (a bit like Scott Harrison) was at his best playing in the three centre backs system with David Mirfin.

Never looked the same since his wrist operation in my view.

If we want to move up the table we can't be playing the likes of Jones and Harrison with limited ability. Onwards and upwards

Id have kept Dan Jones, he had potential and could play a couple of positions. He didn't have much of a pre-season after having an operation and then I think he got injured so he was playing catch up from the start and never really got that much of a chance; apart from the second half on Saturday I cant remember him getting a chance at center back.

I'm not sure why get rid of Jones and keeping Richards but time will tell and it depends who we get in as replacements really.

Gutted. Never hid. Decent on the ball. Played in several positions. Best throw in at the club too. Strange decision I feel.

When Craig took over his mate told me to be ready for great times ahead. He said he would pull us clear of relegation and then set about building a team of winners to get us promoted next season. He said to Craig but what if you do go down then what.....Craig laughed and told him he would not let that happen under his management and instead would get us promotion next season. He told me all about the " winner" inside him bursting a gut to show football how good a manager he will be at Pools. He is super confident and totally believes he will be successful here but only after sorting the winning mentality players from the others. Next season Walker will be a major player for us after Craig finishes converting him to a winner and regular goal scorer from a player with potential and according to my pal he will. Craig loves goal scoring skillful midfielders and maybe thats why he kept Walker and not others. Trust in him regardless of who gets released because he is simply building a house that wont crumble but instead stand the test of time.

As mentioned, Higgy & Fleming watch him day in, day out in training but it's an odd decision to let him go but keep on a young lad whose played one first-team game in two years (Nearney) and Richards who's been at the club since 2011 and looks National League standard at best. The poorest part of Jones' game was his passing but this is obviously something that could be worked on with one-on-one training but, then again, what do I know???

Agree with most, I would have kept Dan Jones but as his deal was up it may well be possible, he / his agent wanted a better deal than we could offer.

Otherwise if Higgy definitely wanted shot and his deal was up then I would have expected Jones departure to be announced in the first batch to go.

Just a thought.

The reason I think he wasn't on the first released list is because Carroll was injured and Higgnet knew he was going to use Jones in the final game.

If you want the club to start going places then unfortunately the likes of Dan Jones aren't good enough, for to many seasons we have carried player's that just ain't good enough, personally I would have also released Richards and Walker both haven't improved over the past two seasons.

There's a line of thought with some supporters that when a mundanely average player finally leaves the club, who's came through the ranks, there's this appeal to hang on to them.
Sorry, if we're to move forward, we require change. If players haven't shown ability by now then it's time to go. I get the feeling that some supporters harbour the parochial view that there are no more players out there. There are.
