The F1 Car beat the bike hands down. ..but IMHO you need a lot more skill on the bike

I remember about 10 years ago Valentino Rossi joining in the F1 practice for Ferrari at Valencia. There was about 16 F1 Drivers all the actual field at the time and Rossi placed around 9th. Not bad for a MotoGP lad having a daft go haha.

I am in the fortunate position of driven both an F1 car and a Moto GP bike.

The to be fair the F1 car (1994 Benneton) was on a corporate do so was turned down to around 500 bhp and the brakes were steel. Even so it was a beast but relatively easy to drive as long as you were pretty committed.

The bike was a 2001 Shell Advance Honda NSR 500 which a mate of mine was riding in the championship at the time. I tootled round Donington at the end of a testing session after the hierarchy had cleared off. The thing was a monster to ride, impossible to control and terrifying. It was 200 bhp+ of an on/off switch and the brakes didn't work! Well not until you give it some stick which I couldn't. Partly because I was shit scared of dropping it and partly because it was so vicious. I did three laps of a circuit I know intimately and was glad to give back.

Getting back to the point.

Most good drivers can drive an F1 car with a bit of practice and get somewhere near a decent lap time with enough of it. However to ride a bike, especially a top level race bike at a decent pace you need to be god like. The difference is massive. I thought I could ride a bike but when you're on the track at the same time as WSB/BSB riders, you get a picture of your true level.
