I liked a lot of the Nice’s stuff but I truly believe it was ELP, not the advent of punk, that killed prog rock v1.0.
I believe Emmy had a cousin or niece who lived up Hesleden way.

I saw quite a few bands from the late 60's and early 70's that reformed in the 90's. The likes of Velvet Underground, Faust, and Suicide spring to mind.

Suicide, the best laxative known to man, I defy anyone to listen to Frankie Teardrop in the dark without shitting themselves !

I can remember at school in 77 and 78 the lads that were into music were either into heavy metal or punk, but cant remember anyone being into Yes or King Crimson or Genesis. Cant imagine it was the sort of music 14 and 15 year olds could get into due to the length and complexity of the songs.

When I was 13 or 14 everyone at school was mad over Slade, Bay City Rollers, Kiddyfiddler Glitter etc. I was always considered a bit weird for liking Van Der Graaf Generator, still think Pawn Hearts is one of the best albums ever, Peter Hammill used to write some real toe tapping stuff !

Has anyone else got a really tenuous link to being related to someone famous, my niece used to be married to Alan White out of Yes's cousin.

Can you tell I'm just killing time till the Australian footy comes on.

First listened to "Yours in no disgrace" when I was 14 and became hooked by Yes ever since ...

I can't say I was ever into Genesis or Yes, even though they had some cracking musicians. The first group ever to be labelled "progressive" was Traffic and they had a lot of popular appeal (naturally following on from Stevie Winwood's Spencer Davis Group days I guess).

I know nobody on here has probably heard of him (and I don't blame you), but I used to work with FFS (famous frog singer) Jaques Higelin's sister-in-law.
And Neil Conti (drummer with Prefab Sprout and with David Bowie at Live Aid) is a bit of a mate of mine but that's not exactly tenuous is it.
And a friend of mine in Paris was the mother of Juliette Binoche's husband.
And I know Phil Dunn personally.
