On the news this morning they are talking about stopping it or making it a non contact sport due to the amount of injuries caused to children.

This comes a day after my 11 year old had his arm broken playing rugby for his school, I had just walked over to the pitch to watch him when he tackled a lad anther lad came diving in and I heard a crack which I thought was shin pads been hit but no it was his arm !

Wouldn't this be detrimental to when lads want to pursue rugby further though having never played contact version of the game?

Hope your lad is back on the field soon Mr Kint.

Always amazes me when stories like this get the headlines as it is just never going to happen. Mind you, it does surprise me there ain't more serious injuries in the professional game as those guys are lethal weapons.

Isnt this just part n parcel of playing contact sport?

injuries are a part of my life.

My 1 year old dislocated his elbow at the park falling over the other week, shall we ban all walking in parks now?

Broke my collar bone falling off a two wheeler when I was a nipper. I say Ban all two wheelers especially if you borrowed it, use only with stabilisers!!!

Truth is, it's not the injuries that are the problem for the kids - it's the rising number of parents who threaten to take legal action that's a problem for the schools.

The country, in fact the western world will implode with this culture of lawsuits. Just read today about some U.S. Sports TV presenter who is suing Marriott hotel group for £53m because some stalker got a room next to her and recorded her in the shower before releasing in on the Internet. She blames them for allowing his 'type' to room next to her.

I don't doubt it's not a great thing to happen but come on, £53m banghead

And for the benefit of monkeybutt, no I don't have a copy of the video....

My eldest is getting into tag rugby at the age of seven, and will hopefully want to play the contact version when he's older. I reckon 11 is about right.

As for risks, you really do need to face them. From the age of about 12 I used toplay inknknockabouts with blokes on the rec, and used to kick properly kicked about. Even fractured my skull after getting elbowed when going up for a header when I was 14. Apart from concussion there was no harm done.

As kids we played in the old out houses next to the old boys, we played on building sites before John Howe gardens got built, we rode bikes up Crimdon dene, played footy, rugby, cricket the lot. Everyone got injuries, you need injuries!

I'm all for tag rugby under 10 but then it has to go somewhere.

My nephew isn't even allowed to do a roly poly as his Mam shits herself that he'll snap his neck, whose ever snapped there neck doing that?

Chatting to a Canadian teacher a few years ago - in her workplace the school took out all play equipment and cut down all the trees to reduce the risk of a lawsuit. The kids had fuck all to do at lunch and break time due to the compensation culture. How long until we're in that situation?

We were taking them into school in our haversacks and selling them for 10 pence each to other kids.

Never done me any harm. Obviously got caned when some fucker from Horden grassed us up. Did make the front page of the Mail like.

Great story but a better ending would have been some fooker from Horden got blown up

I broke my leg when I was 12 playing bulldog. I was at boarding school at the time (nothing posh, an army child thing) and was simply carried off the field so the game could carry on. I had to hobble back to the school, I got myself up 2 flights of stairs and went to bed. Was in agony all night and the next day, I went down for breakfast and told a teacher I was in a bad way to be told okay, I'll take you to the doctor, albeit I was expected to walk there

I eventually got a lift and was immediately sent for a scan to find that I had indeed broken my leg. Not played bulldog again since confised

They haven't banned tiggy exactly though have they? By the sound of it one school where a few kids who were using tiggy as an excuse to grab the others have stopped it. It'd be hard to judge what were genuine accidents and what weren't so stop it for a while and then allow it again when the biggest kids who were taking advantage leave. Nobody's arguing for a nation wide ban.

Catch Yorkshire?

The correct medical term is Boycott's Syndrome. Also known as Boring Bastad's Disease.
