What does everyone make of it?

I must admit I'm no fan of Boxing really but will watch a big fight, these big fights are often damp squibs though but as I say I'm not at all knowledgable about it. UFC seems to be getting massive and I've seen a re-run of that fight last night and Christ it's brutal. In terms of action though you can't really knock it but all the build up (trash talking on a different level that Irish bloke who lost was basically saying he was going to kill his opponent) and then the fight made me think it's a bit backward and belongs in the Coliseum. But I watched it!! At the end of the fight it looked like a scene from Tarantino film, blood and shit all over the place.

It's getting absolutely massive though and is surely a threat to Boxing? Should it even be legal though, it's got to be a matter of time before one of them gets killed live on telly.

Rather watch Boxing than UFC far more skill and craft than the outright thuggery of UFC.

As I say I'm not a fan of Boxing but appreciate the skill and discipline involved to be successful. But doesn't that apply to UFC as well? For a start they must be ridiculously fit to be able to do that for five, five minute rounds and you've got to be skilled or you are going to get seriously hurt.

But being able to repeatedly hit someone while they are pinned on the floor?

Also for all of the shocking, albeit incredibly entertaining, TV interviews and face offs before the fight McGregor has acted with dignity after it. Whatever you think of the sport they are proper fighters.

It's far more entertaining than Boxing because if any Boxing fan is honest they turn up to see the fighters actually beat each up, that would be good a fight but in Boxing that is very rare these days. In UFC that is a given. But does it cross a line?

I've never watched a UFC fight but heard the lads at work rambling on about it this week so thought I'd click one of the many links on social media today and watched it, if that had been a boxing bout it would have been stopped long before it did, the amount of blood present would have seen an end not long after he got cut, it was like a scene from a rocky fillum when he was just wiping it away so he could continue, if they'd stayed on their feet I'd have fancied the paddy to win it like.

I am a huge fan of boxing and MMA and both have their merits. UFC has been on a massive rise which has really gathered momentum in the last few years. You have got to give Conor McGregor and Ronda Rousey a lot of credit for that love or hate them they have definitely raised the sport to a whole new level in terms of popularity.

The main reason for this is that obviously the UFC has a majority of the greatest MMA fighters and it definitely has the most promotional power. So when all the fighters are under the same promotion it's pretty easy to get the best fighters to fight each other. Which is what fans want to see. Which never happens in boxing at the time it should. Even now we haven't got the Canelo GGG fight. Still waiting for Khan Brook aswell. In the UFC these fights would of happened which is what people pay for really. Every UFC fighter ends up having a loss so there is no hiding and protecting a record.

I think that's why it is gathering so much popularity and definitely why it certainly is a great threat to boxing. When you mix that with the bloodshed and the spectacular KO's (which is what everyone watches combat sports for really deep down) you have got a winning formula as is being proved.

Boxing needs something like a "UFC" to pull everyone together and give the fans the fights they want. Boxing is a mess with all the different governing bodies - they have like 5 different World Champions at about 15 different weight classes.

I like both sports but MMA is on another level.

Weird this I know, but I hate boxng, so cant see me every watching this UFO stuff.

Never understood why people like to see other people punching fook out of each other.

Maybe it hides their own inadequacies?

Plus a lot of boxing crowds just look like a bunch of gypo's.

I suppose ifthey werent watching boxong and getting angry in the audience, they would probably be badger baiting, or something.

UFC and boxing, big girls blouses and not a patch in performance, skill, fitness, mental toughness compared to the WWE! FACT

On my reading of consent to assault, I don't think it's legal now. However, I can't see the police or CPS bringing a prosecution.

I'm all for people doing what they want providing it doesn't impact on others which I suppose it doesn't so all is good. The people involved consent and know what the risks are so crack on. There's even a ref so it must be ok.

Personally, I think it is pretty horrific. Instead of people evolving in a way to move away from boxing because two people punching fuck out of each other really isn't a good idea, we've gone completely the other way and upped the ante. Smaller gloves (if you can call them gloves at all), legal to kick and knee as well as throw your opponent to the floor before piling on with knees and fists.

Just a mattter of time before it becomes the accepted norm and people need something new....blunt instruments to begin with before moving on to sharper tools.

Oh yes and this all takes place in a cage. 'Roll up, roll up, two men/women kick absolute fuck out of each other in the Cage of Death!! Blood, guts and fitting guaranteed!!'

What an intelligent species we are.

It's not all just punching the living daylights out of each other its called mma cos it's a mix of different marshal arts the guy that won the first couple of ufcs (when anyone could fight any weight class) was a Brazilian ju jit zu black belt and used submission skills to win

Kid Galahad was on Sky Sports earlier because he's on the undercard of someone's fight (whose name escapes me) and is returning to the ring after (I think they said) a drugs ban.

He said and I quote '...just want to get back to what I'm good at, beating people up..'

Top bloke clearly.

Broken down it's two people trying to cause physical damage to each other regardless of what skills are used.

Despite my earlier post I don't hold anything against anyone who enjoys it but my own view is that it's all a bit sad and we should be able to see it for what it is and play fucking cricket or some other shit instead.

Is it not a circle/octagon/whatever surrounded by a what, seven foot fence?

Gotta be a cage hasn't it?
