How fantastic would it be to do a Leicester and go on a great run now to pull us well away from relagation, add some real quality in the summer and continue the momentum next season to go for a promotion push.

Or am I getting far too carried away and the usual pools will turn up against dagenham next week confised

If we look at the games so far under Hignett, I can only see exciting times ahead. Even when we went 3-1 up yesterday, we were still pushing for a fourth when most managers would be saying 'keep it tight', 'don't lose the ball'. Our defence was attack yesterday which was fabulous to watch. I wasn't going to bother going to Crawley a few weeks back but I just can't wait now.

Or am I getting carried away and will this post come back and bite me when it gets bumped in a few weeks :uhoh:

I think some expected the same going into this season, just worry about staying up first and then see how we look early next season for me.

You dont have to be brilliant to hit a top 7 spot of a league two that gets worse by the season.

I share your optimism CHESSINGTON.

We got a half decent squad.
Im sure Higgy will recruit better than Moore who did a lot of replacing shit with shit,

I applaud Hignett's approach and given the state of our defending this season I don't blame him for trying to play in the opposition half.

One of the biggest problems we still seem to have is these lazy starts we make to games. We have got to get into the habit of beginning games on the front foot. This was something Chris Turner was always keen on - worked well in his first spell.

Yes I must say I've been impressed with him so far, he seems more level-headed than I expected. We have had some bad displays under his tenure but, given the state of mind of the players he inherited, I think that was inevitable.

It will be interesting to see him have a pre-season with the squad and a fresh start next campaign. I'm more optimistic now than I have been for a long time.

Its not a great division, and as a lot of us having been saying for most of the season this squad of players should not be in the bottom three.

We were hindered by poor management/coaching, as soon as Moore got his three year deal he seemed happy to perpetuate the myth that he was bigger than the football club and that he was performing miracles to keep us in League Two. In reality with the size of the squad and the attendances we should be able to cope comfortably in this division.

If was obvious Moore had lost the plot and the support of key players as far back as late October, yet out of misplaced loyalty the owners stuck with him way beyond the point that they should have done. With some decent training/coaching and joined up thinking tactically I think we will make steady progress.

What was refreshing for anyone with access to Poolsworld is the interview with Hignett after yesterdays game. He is very calm, summarises where we are at, but there is absolutely no panic whatsoever in relation to our league position. When asked he just says " we will be fine " and that has to be very re-assuring for the players to hear.

Under Moore they would have been publically slated after the Bristol Rovers game for a couple of days with individual players named and shamed, but you get the impression with Hignett there will be no dirty washing aired in public, or drama queenery.

Dunno how far Hignett can take us, but its good just to be watching a side that looks like it has a game plan.

Great post.

I do wonder about the mental health of those fans that remained loyal to moore for so long though.

Totally agree Chip. To watch a team (like yesterday) with a plan - with options - with strategic changes - is of a different league to the dross under Ronnie. Yesterday I thought we were in trouble for fifteen minutes Hignett and the team as a group changed things and we coasted it at times - under Ronnie we would have shipped three or four more goals.

Great post Chip. It can only be positives with Hignett in charge. I'm even not getting worked up about the fact that I was right all season long about Moore and took pelters for months about it.

Happy days !
