It took hignett all of 60 mins to see his worth as a defensive midfielder that cannot win a header or a tackle. His decision to give the new lad Jones wasn't a bad one. He reminded me of the lad we played last year at center half not sure of his name.

If u want to pass it out from the back then you have to play Featherstone no matter what the brain dead morons who know fuck all about football think of him.

It has always baffled me how much abuse Featherstone gets from Pools fans. He gets blamed for every-fucking-thing, despite being one of the few who tried to play football under Moore. There's many in the Millhouse who shout and boo when we are passing the ball, then shout and boo when we play a long ball.

Carrol IMO is another who tries to pass his way out of trouble. Think we will see him back in for Jones soon. Hopefully Fleming can work on his defensive shape.

As has already been said the first half hour was a complete horror show. We didn't fold though and Hignett made changes which proved effective. He will have learnt a few things from last night and we have to take the positives from it. We have some very difficult fixtures on the horizon but I have a feeling we might just start to surprise a few people.

Magnay was player of the season for Grimsby in defence so why do we persist in playing him in midfield ? The guy basically said in an interview he doesn't really like playing their and thinks other players think there better than him their so either get him in defence or leave him out. The defence is conceding goals for fun so maybe we get him in a position that suits him. Last night we decided to play I out from the back a game Tha totally suits Featherstone so what do we do drop him. We haven't got time for managerial errors this time otherwise we will be in the conference.

Yes because our midfield is absolutely fantastic isn't it. How could Featherstone ever get criticism!? Really dumb that sctatchinghead

He's the tidiest footballer we've got and the one you'd trust in possession in a tight area but he doesn't break up play to be honest he rarely tackles. A bit of a problem when you are playing in front of the back four. Woods does good things and bad things and can't shoot for toffee, how often does he completely shank shots from really good positions? He missed an absolutely great chance just before half time last night. They both aren't bad players but neither dominate or dictate a game.

I largely agree about not changing a winning team but we only made one change. To be fair Magnay did have a nightmare first half but so did a fair few others. The conditions made it very difficult it was very hard to get out and clear your lines. I' sure Featherstone would have found it difficult to pop passes about into a gale force wind. So I can see why he picked Magnay. Like I said they struggled just as much second half but maybe it wasn't a night for a neat and tidy footballer in that position either, Alan Smith probably did the best job in that position all night just closing down and kicking people. It was a night for that type of player.

The player who "did the best job in that position" was the coloured lad with the dreadlocks who ran the show by controlling the ball and playing it simple all night.

Sadly we didnt play with one.

He did have an excellent game especially first half but wasn't playing the holding role into the wind like Smith did well in the last half an hour.

That's what I was thinking, Chip. The fact of the matter is football is a sport, played in the winter months in this country and as such is exposed to the elements. It is the same for both sides and some people cope with it better than others. Round here I am known for being able to cope with the wind whilst playing golf. The reason is that I was a member at Seaton before I moved down here. There are times when it is nigh impossible to stand up at Seaton never mind play decent golf shots. The course is so exposed, as are most links courses. The players who can adapt to the conditions are the ones who carry off the prizes.

Their is no denying the wind was a factor last night but when we equalised county then went on to create quite a few dangerous opportunities when really they shouldn't of been able to get out of their half. At the end of the day we lost. Yet again. If hignett thinks this squad is good enough were in for tough times ahead.

We created several good opportunities in the first half as well.

I wasn't at the game Tuesday [awaits abuse] but whenever I've seen Featherstone play infront of the back four it's seemed like he's been put there so as to have more room to play, not to break up opposition play. It's worked well with Magnay infront of him doing that job, giving Featherstone the time and space to show that he is our best passer of a football.

Again wasn't there Tuesday, but I wouldn't be totally against Magnay playing in the middle again on the basis of what I've seen previously.

I just missed the last 3 home games! Trip to China then laid up with flu when I got back.

Imagine my surprise - Ronnie Moore out and Craig Hignett gone from hero to zero, all in the space of 9 days.

But there's good news for Hignett - Chip's still prepared to cut him some slack!
