Wonder who the Assistant manager will be. Have we ever had an 'extra' coach?

Is he still up for a game, loved Tinkler when he was here as a player.

Sweeney was class in his day. His last few.seasons weren't brilliant but in the first few he was one of the first names on the team sheet in the most successful team in the clubs history.

He had some superb seasons for us and scored quite a few goals, a hattrick at one point I think. Turner then randomly decided to play him at right back for a season, this was way before our right back problem which has been hindering us for the past few year.

Sweeney is another victim of retarded fans syndrome.

He joins Michael Barron, Ritchie Humphreys, Scott Flinders, amongst others.

Welcome Curtis one wonders what would have happened if a certain John Hughes was allowed to bring in his own back room team?

think sweeney was essentially another player like gray in that can't really play well in a centre midfield 2. it's not only him who has that issue as our team hasn't been able to play 442 for years because of this...probably since willie boland left.

Tinkler's peak years for us were 2001-2004, during which time Sweeney barely featured. Their only real overlap was the Cardiff season, and any suggestion that MT carried Sweeney in that season would be too daft to deserve comment. Sweeney then went on to have many many more great games without Tinkler in the side.

I was actually suggesting they complemented each other and that was Sweeneys best time for me. I didn't suggest he was rubbish after that period, there's plenty on here that were banging that drum

I could never understand the Sweeney knockers always gave 100% (I thought that was nornally a pre requisite for being named a club legend )

I think we lost a few decent players over the past few years, but fans have to have someone on the pitch to blame when times are hard, not realising the real problem is a lot further up the line.

Or had been allowed to sign a player or two

Looking at the youtube clips of Sweeney's early years he does, indeed, look quite a player. He, unfortunately then adopted a technique I'd perfected years ago when forced to play fooking Rugby at Brierton school (I was too shite to play footie), i.e. if I stood about avoiding the ball I would get shouted at, but If I ran around a lot, but still avoided the ball, I would get praised for "effort".
I'm glad that Anthony has revived his career somewhat at Carlisle, but he was part of our, seemingly unsolvable, midfield problems and just treading water here.

Agree with all of that. Walker has also been looking to perfect that particular technique.
