Better in many ways but a tad lucky to win.

Not a penalty.

Yeovil were poor - Compton was awful. Dolan worked hard and, at times, looked pretty decent. Didn't see much of Bird.

The guy who got sent off was long overdue a yellow card - and I'd love five minutes in a sound proof room with their number 25 - an odious little git in need of a good kicking!

We didn't make the extra man count - perhaps because Bingham went missing. I'd have put Hawkins on rather than Bingham.

Agree with other comments about Bates - also thought Woods put in a great shift.

Let's hope for more improvement on Tuesday - but I'm not going to get carried away yet.

Why was it not a penalty? There gaffer said it was a foul and having seen it on TV it was in the box

Number 25 from their team I have to disagree. High quality player, in fact best footballer on the pitch. Mistake they made was putting him upfront second half so he was largely innefective rather than in midfield or free role dictating play.

I was pretty impressed with Pools, deserved to win and tried to play some good football. Bates and Jackson very good, Jones solid, Richards superb (looks like a proper footballing right back always trying to pass to feet). Midfield three decent and passing the ball well mostly. Paynter hold up play good. Ironically I personally thought James and Thomas were a little weak and lost ball too easily but they were both a threat despite this and Thomas' pace to get behind them caused problems.

Anyways for certain potential to work on for the manager and a very good interview with him on Tees afterwards.

The pace of Thomas is frightening. Shame about his finishing.

when he is running with the ball, his boots are made of silk, when he comes to pull the trigger or take a corner, he slips into toblerone boots banghead

He had 2 good chances today and he tried to smash them both, should have went across the keeper. He has potential but he blows very hot n cold, not sure why first he played so narrow.

Won us the pen so that's pleasing enough.

I was always coached drive it low to the far post in those positions as even if you miscue or keeper saves it brings other options for rebounds etc. none of them did that today

First time Higgy was here I remember them telling James to take small steps before he shoots to set himself because when running at pace he didn't have the control over his shots. Perhaps similar is needed with Thomas. I would say he seemed to get caught in possession a few times, either taking too long or not aware of who was around him.

Obviously today was a lot more positive, shame we conceded but there seemed to be a lot more talking going on and nice to see how angry Carson got at a conciliation.

Carson was boiling, ran straight off down the tunnel. It's a good thing really that he was so pissed off at conceding but it certainly was not the usual etiquette of shaking hands etc

Thought we were very lucky to win today and looked quite poor for big chunks of the game. The ref was laughable, probably one of the worse refs I've seen in a long time, everybody was shocked when the penalty was awarded.

I do hope Hignett and Fleming change our style of football, quite boring to see hoof ball in this day and age. Good to see Dan Jones in the team over Carroll, Carroll bottles out of far too many challenges whereas Jones doesn't.

For me it's not Carroll bottling, it's his positioning that concerns me, he goes completely wandering, even when he is actually at the back he's not necessarily with their attacker/winger. With Thomas in front of him it's even worse, as Thomas looks to really run at the opposition, which can leave gaps.
Take a look at previous goals conceded and an alarming number are generated from one side of the pitch.

I'm with you on that Spelk. The problem is that Jones is not a natural left back. He doesn't shirk a challenge, but his distribution needs to improve; he is still only young & has plenty of time to improve

Having watched it back on TV a few times this morning it definitely was a penalty, one of two decisions the clown in charge got right all day. How bad was he? The performance was better, couldn't have been any worse but it's important that we beat the teams around us when we play them and fortunately we have Dagenham and York to come at home. It's a shame we conceded at the death, Bingham needs to man up and start putting his body on the line, without that he can be as good as a man missing. Thought Paynter was good yesterday and although a lot didn't come off for him James didn't stop all afternoon. Onwards and upwards (hopefully.....)
