York centre back was sent off against us last season when he crunched Walker and we then got beat. Might be the last one?

Good shout. Still can't believe we lost that game.

It's the referees fault that lad got sent off today completely down to his incompetence.

Had he just given a clear free kick against the centre back early in the game he might have actually stopped just grabbing hold of Paynter every time the ball was knocked up to him and that wouldn't have happened so late in the game. He fouled him for the entire game and got away with it, absurdly even for the sending off incident he gave the free kick against Paynter. Without sticking the nut on Billy he did enough to be sent off for persistent fouling even though none of them were given!

Where do they get these goons from?

Ironically, the sending off came from the first time a foul was called either way. The first half was a joke for how often Paynter and James were fouled and not a single one was given. James nearly had the shirt taken off his back at one point, right in front of the linesman and nothing was given.

Ref was appalling. I was afraid Paynter would lose it. Well done Hignett for hooking him straight after.

His awfulness did help us though. The penalty looked like it was outside the box.

Well it's about time we started being cynical and taking advantage of a weak referee. :D

Thought Bates was class again. Seems to be getting into some decent form.

Did really well when they had a two on one in the second half. Just held his position so that the pass wasn't on, and at the same time held up the player with the ball to allow help to get back.

It was so far outside the box it was genuinely laughable. It was a free kick at worst.

The best bit was when the ref pointed to some bit of sticking up turf just inside the area to try and justify his decision. He was shocking all game, though for once shocking in our favour.

Looking at the highlights on Sky Sports website it looks a lot closer to be inside the box than I originally thought, still looks just outside though

It should also be pointed out that Jackson got away with murder most of the second half once he sussed the ref wasn't giving free kicks for climbing all over the back of people or shirt pulling.

I didn't even realise the referee had given a penalty until I saw Paynter put the ball down on the spot. He was absolutely dreadful and would have looked out of his depth reffing a Wearside League game but given that I'm biased, it was easily the most blatant penalty I've ever seen... bbolt

Wasn't at the game today, was at Spennymoor so can't comment on general performance but to be fair the penalty is a terrific decision. And the turf really did come from the foul! Will certainly get top marks from the assessor for that particular decision as I'm pretty sure it will be marked in the most challenging category.

Clears that up nicely

Tried to post a screenshot of the contact but file is too big? Definately inside the box!!

I have! Tried to post it! How does looking at the ball help? If the defender played the ball it wouldn't have been a foul! The defender does not leave the penalty area at any point before contact is made. Definate penalty (and on the line is classed as inside!) certainly not a laughable decision! Very very tough at that speed and Definately correct!

It's inside the box. As I said at the time, the fact they barely appealed it said a lot.

Very easy for a ref to bottle those and just give a free kick in the edge. Plus he got the red card and yellow card spot on for me too. Got the major incident right despite letting constant climbing and grappling go unpunished.

To be consistent with the brad walker thread if you're not a professional referee you're not allowed to comment on the decision

Well if that's the case my point stands!! It was a penalty and nobody else is allowed to argue with me!!!

Generally speaking? We're talking isolated incidents not generally speaking. Its a penalty man! Stop digging your heels in! If I wasn't certain I wouldn't have commented! Compare it to Stockport away...... Miles inside!!

I didn't even think it was a foul Thomas over hit it and ran into him.

The referee was disgraceful today we benefitted and got a bit of luck for that penalty, about time I hope it turns our season but he was hopelessly out of his depth.

Looking at the ball helps because generally speaking players run in a straight line towards the ball and not away from it.

Thomas is running towards the ball which is heading away from the penalty area, having never gone into it. At no point does he enter the penalty box and if you look at the stills below both of his feet are clearly outside the box. The defenders left foot, which is in line with his shoulder is also clearly outside the box and his momentum is carrying him further out of the box. In the split second after that still, both players are heading out of the box.

Its not as bad as it looked in real speed, but nobody around me thought it was a penalty, and most people were laughing at the decision. If it had been given against us most on here would be fuming.

His left foot on those photos is touching the line and he is a yard from the corner of the box with his shoulders and chest in the box. I was very close to it and thought it was a definite penalty.

From my angle it looked like he just ran into him. Everyone around me didn't think it was a foul, or inside the box. That said, we'll take it.

I was at the far end of the Mill House terrace so didn't have the best view but would have been severely pissed off if the penalty had been given against us ! What the hell - we never seem to get a break so I'll take whatever's going !
