Thought it would be quick.

It appears Collins has been relieved on his first team duties as well but is still on the gravy train.

Good luck Higgy!

Glad it says he is picking his back room staff.

Fair play Coxall, on paper a very good days work.

Not my first choice but he's here and that's that. Hopefully it will all work.

Good luck Mr Hignett :)

Don't like the sly little fucker but if he can do a half decent job he has my full support. A really good job and I'll consider calling him Higgy.

As he's been at matches he should have an idea of the players capabilities, time saved there hopefully.

Think how long this appointment would have taken under the previous regime ..... we'd have had the winner of the lowest tender bid in place by late April.

I'm impressed with the chairman tbh. Could have easily taken the easier option of sticking with Moore, citing loyalty. It needed changing and he's been decisive with enough games left.
I think Hignett is a good coach so will be interesting to see how he takes to management. An experienced no2 and it might all be ok.

Could Colin Cooper be on his way back as Assistant Manager?

Good luck higgy, could do with getting off to a quick start like.

As Colin Cooper proved, your backroom staff will make or break you. Choose wisely.

Have to say I've been unsure about the prospect of Higgy as a manager, perhaps likes too much of a laugh. After the way things have turned under Ronnie with his comments it'll probably be a breath of fresh air and hopefully give them the lift and freedom they need.

I know nearly all have been equally of Sam Collins as they were Ronnie but I'm glad he's stayed in some role. There ware a few players who played crucial for us towards the back end of last season who'd never been given a chance until Sam gave them a go when he was caretaker. Most of these were younger players as well so his new role might be ideal for him.

A win/win situation, with Ronnie we were on a downward spiral, so with Higgy, if the worst happens, then it's not his fault, and we go again !
If we can string 2 wins in a row, that would be incredible for starters !!!

'There will be a change in style, that's for sure'

At least he witnessed the shit we had to put up with.

It's exciting news and he loved Gary's vision which also sounds equally exciting.

Agreed about him being potentially a good appointment but let's just hope he doesn't do a moonlight flit when something better comes along like when Boro came calling like last time.

I don't think anyone could blame him really.

His article a few weeks ago was a really good article. Anyone got the link?

He'll have been a success if he gets poached by Boro or anyone else for that matter. I'd be delighted if we were in that position.

To be fair he's already said in the interview on OS, he wants to put in a solid foundation so when the next manager comes in after him the club is set up for success. End of the day you want someone that's ambitious and wants to manage at a higher level rather than someone like Moore just looking for a last pay cheque then going on like he is bigger than the club.

If Hignett comes in for 12 months, sorts out the backroom stuff, gets the right players in, and runs the club properly , if he gets poached by a bigger club it will at least mean we have been successful on the field, and like he says the new man coming in is off to a good start.

We saw that ( those of us who are old enough ) when Sir Cyril was manager. He laid the foundations by changing the mindset of the people at the club, giving them the discipline and then confidence that we could be more than perennial relegation candidates, so when Murray had to step in he already had a solid platform to build from.

Same with Cooper after replacing Turner/Newell.
