Sad to hear the news of Glenn Frey passing away. The Eagles were, and still are, one of my all time favourite bands, a sad loss. RIP Glenn Frey.

They made some fabulous music. R.I.P. Glen.

Never understood that bit in Desperado (an otherwise brilliant song) where they said he'd been out riding fences. Surely he'd have been on a horse?

I adore the Eagles music but Desperado is the one song of theirs I just don't get.

RIP Glen.

Maybe because it's a lot more like a standard country song than a lot of their other stuff? I like a bit of country and Desperado is probably my favourite Eagles track whereas I find a lot of their other stuff is a bit over-produced and west coasty.

New kid in town my fave but get sick of them quickly. American radio music for me is epitomized by The Eagles.

Some bastad ruined 'Whisky in the Jar' for me in a similar way in my old local. Every time I went in.

Mr MFR will vouch for the fact that The Wild Boar/Mild Bore near Tursdale only used to play The Best of Simply Red every fooking night, all night. In the end we got so pissed off we went to the only other pub you could walk to. It was completely empty except for us. We put a couple of quid in the jukebox and chose several songs by bands other than Simply Red at which point the landlord turned the volume off. Following a heated debate we got barred and had to go back to Mick Hucknall who, to be fair, did fund a great reggae label with his ill-gotten gains.

There as a bloke who used to put Desperado on the Woodcutter jukebox all the time, and I do mean all the time. He'd stick a quid in and play it five times.

Obviously the bloke would have been either Toulouse or Monty, trying to work out the lyrics.

Au contraire M. Louse: Lyin' Eyes is one of my faves and you don't get much more country than that.

True enough, must just be one of those things then. Apart from a few of his more obviously mainstream efforts I think Bob Dylan is just a whining, strumming, irritating get. He's obviously got something but it doesn't work for me.

He has the ability to write fantastic songs. (Though when it comes to singing them...).
Being a veteran of IOW '69, where the people were breaking down the barricades to get away from him, I can't say he's my favourite artist like.

Anyway, I forced a bar to put the best of the Eagles on tonight. There were a good few songs I'd (almost) forgotten in there. Definitely a really, really easy group to listen to, and the way the guitar blends in with the vocals is sublime.

What really worries me is all these singers abandoning this mortal coil before they reach 70. I hope it's not setting a new trend.

All I can remember about the other pub is that it was like a giant conservatory and very empty. No idea on the lager either but I do remember getting giant measures of the malts from the barman who thought the landlord was a tossed. Also remember the combination of gripper rods and spiky artex that made your stairs a bit of a high risk climb after a few pints.

I blame the Zamek for not being able to remember it.

I'm sure they used to sell Zamek in the Causeway about 20 or so years ago
