I just think the Freemason are from a forgotten time and a bit like a old mans youth club with funny handshakes and people enjoying being "one of us". I can see no advantage in being one and as also you have to have faith I wouldn't be allowed in. Also they are very good at looking after their own even if it means fucking other people over.

I used to work at a 'large educational establishment' in the town, and there were a number of masons in positions of authority at the time. There was a financial scam being carried out by a departmental manager (a mason) running into many thousands of pounds, that was discovered by a colleague of this bloke (a non-mason). When he confronted him about it and threatened to blow the whistle, he was taken to one side by a number of other senior figures (all masons) and basically threatened with blackmail for certain indiscretions of the marital variety (that may or may not have been true) if he didn't drop his accusations and basically turn a blind eye to the fraud. This was only one examples of corruption in the organisation that involved our masonic friends. In my experience, whilst the idea of a charitable social club with a little bit of mystique about it has certain appeal, it does tend to attract an element of inadequates who are hoping for a leg up the social and work ladder. just sayin like.
