A timely link indeed - we are all but 'Finnished' as a FL club under the current regime.

I love that bit where they say both clubs could benefit from their players coming here and ours going there.

How is sending our fringe players over there going to benefit a Finnish Premier League? Unless they use the fuckers for fuel

It might not necessarily be fringe players who go over there. There's is a summer league so depending on circumstances a first teamer could go. Probably would be a good experience for the younger players having to go there for a while, not sure what the level of football would be like though

Alternatively we could try giving our own players a chance at our own football club ? I know its a bit radical, but seems to have worked for some of the previous managers ?

I seen a spennymoor fan on Facebook say Hawkins was one of their best players during his recent loan spell.

He's 22 now. Let's give the lad a run, always liked the look of him when I've seen him play.

Jones gets stuck in and tackles, he can head the ball and has a good throw in, whilst Carroll gives us what?

You will only develop young players by giving them a run in the first team and letting them learn their trade. Its why the big clubs loan their young players to teams in the lower leagues, to get experience of competitive football and to play alongside more experienced players. If there was no benefit to it, they would just keep them at their home club playing Youth Team games.

If lads like Jones, Richards, Hawkins, etc are not deemed good enough to play regularly then what's the point in them getting contracts, and more to the point whats the point of having a Youth system ? You cant just run something that costs a lot to keep the CEO's son and his mate in a job. It like we work with these lads till they are 18 or 19 then keep a few hanging around the place to fill the bench and make it look like the system is working.

I've only seen Hawkins play one game this season, against Shef Utd, and he was as good in that game as some of the kids we have brought in on loan over the last 12 months.

Spot on sir clappp

Against Sheffield United, who whether they were at full strength or not were still a cut above anything in our league, Hawkins played with composure, passed the ball well, was mobile and didn't shy out of tackles.

Nobody's saying he was perfect or that he would have kick started a revival, but on that performance he deserved another chance.

Like Dan Jones you get the feeling that the season's just going to stutter along without them and then they'll be shown the door.

I see Pools youth teams of all ages on a weekly basis and I have to say they never fail to impress. They typically compete against the likes of Scunthorpe, Doncaster, Chesterfield, York, Lincoln, Burton, etc and generally come off the better side. Our u18's side under John Hewitson were top of their league until recently. The coaches know their stuff and it is run very professionally. I think sometimes its a leap of faith with young players - after making such an investment in their progress it seems pointless to disregard them as they come of age.

Some great points there chip. The type of stuff local journos should be investigating and talking about, bit too close to the club some of them.

Back to the finnish link, I find it hard to get excited about more loan signings, who don't know the English leagues coming here for a few month.

Might be better investing in the team instead of another glorified loan signing.

Personally speaking, as a matter of principle, we should definitely stick with a youth system. The north-east has always produced good footballers even if they don't always stay here. We also have one of the biggest youth league competitions in Europe on our doorstep in the TJFA. We just don't seem to be able to capitalise on the local interest, in recent times at least. Why this is I don't know but it is not something that can be just abandoned unless absolutely necessary.
