Can we late comers have a potted history of the man, to enable us to appreciate the tales he is going to tell us.
When he surfaces.

Hi there fellow Poolies and thanks for the intro Elvis!

I've just found this message board - been on the 'rivals.net' site off and on up until now, but there is very rarely any interesting threads on there these days. This one looks a bit better I must say :sweeeet:

What ptbap and the others are referring to is that way back in the early 90's, before the days when the internet and message boards were widely used, I started the HUFC Mailing List from one of our mail servers here at the University of Teesside (yes, I'm still here, sad innit). I used to send match reports that were distributed to the list members via email and we had well over one hundred ppl on the list when it closed.

It was all doom and gloom then though and nobody could have forecast the successes we have enjoyed over the IOR era. Anyway, heres to more success and plenty of good old Poolie banter...

Welcome Johnny. Sadly I wasn't a member of the Mailing List Member Elite so I missed out on the earliest days of online Poolies. About the earliest I can remember was the Ballistic site.

I'm sure you'll get the traditional Bunker welcome soon enough

Ahhhh, the glories of the Mailing List! I remember Paul Mullen (pre Press Officer days) scanning in the fixtures from the paper and sending it to all on the list, took ages over the modem.... one or two people that insisted in sending in HTML which broke my mail client... debates about whether we should keep Steve Howard or not... the sacking of Tait.... and the awe and reverence that greeted the signing of a genuine striker at last when Gary Jones arrived!

Happy days (except when my mail client crashed).....

I like the avatar MadJohn - I remember Warnock (or Colin Wanker as he is affectionately known (its an anagram lol)) playing for Pools way back and scoring from a corner. Wasn't a bad left winger as it happens..

Yeah, those were the days, when I used to post prolifically, rather than the few nowadays. I was a student at Teesside when John set up the mailing list so had plenty of time on my hands.
