I can,t make my mind up if it,s a good thing or bad. It gives us more time to get injured players back and new players in but also is the fitness levels going to be an issue because of lack of games. Then there,s the psychological effect of teams below winning, closing the gap and putting more pressure on to win games. sctatchinghead

Bad for me, one or two games maybe but now we will be playing catch up. Playing regularly is the better way of keeping fit, running round a training pitch or gymnasium due to the weather isn't.

Shame we couldn't loan players for a set amount of games rather than days.

Off to watch Stourbridge v Ramsbottom. £5 for both of us :) Same league as Darlo and Salford. I'll let Ron know if anyone catches my eye ;)

I think it's probably a good thing our first game back after this long break is Derby.....it's a good game to get the players back to match sharpness and one which has zero pressure.

We've introduced our own winter break. Obviously works in Germany, let's see if we get any benefit.

Next league game is at home to Wycombe on 16th Jan, if Dagenham get a lift from John Still becoming their manager, and York get a result against Yeovil today then we could be just a point away from bottom 2 by 5pm.

Ok we'll have games in hand, but we would need to win them and all of a sudden there will be loads of pressure on us and potentially Dagenham and York on a bounce from new manager / couple of wins. Yorks next game after today is home to Newport so not out of the question they get 4 - 6 points and Daggers have Exeter and home to Northampton so not out of the question they pick up 4 points, which following our defeat at home to Wycombe (quite likely) we'll be level on 20 points with them both.

I hope to god that the chairmans confidence in Ronnie is well judged and that the targets we have lined up will make a hell of a difference.

Yes York certainly on a bounce with the new manager, one win, one draw 8 defeats under him :?

The quality of recruits will be an indication of how serious the owners are about retaining league status.
Games in hand count for nothing if the team continue in the same vein.

I'm 99.9% confident we won't go down but we shouldn't be in this position again rakxe

Does concern me that we are allegedly after a player not good enough for tranmere confised

You're quite right to point this out, I am now much less concerned, espcially as the win and draw have been in their last 2 games.

Nothing to worry about cos we are on a run of 4 straight league defeats and 4 points from 33 so all good

Not so sure you can say we will definitely lose to Wycombe, and in same prediction have that Dagenham might pick something up against Northampton. Table suggest we are better than Dagenham, and Northampton are better than Wycombe.

Match fitness will be the issue but it does allow new signings hopefully and also injured players time to get back

I suggest we are likely to lose to Wycombe and on current form I can't see amy other result.

I also suggest that under their new manager John Still, someone who has a real affinity with Dagenham and has done well there previously, they might pick up a bit of form and could return with some points.

They might not pick owt up and we might beat Wyombe. But a life time of supporting Pools I sense something uncomfortable heading our way.

My point is that from having a relatively comfortable gap between us and the bottom 2 a couple of weeks ago we could be right in it by the end of today, on a run of terrible form and banking on Ronnie nailing it in the transfer market and all his new signings hitting the ground running. Or else we get sucked into something shitty in a run of bad form, low confidence and teams around us might pick up a few results.

he is good enough, just like he was good enough for Shrewsbury in their Lg2 promotion season. Sometimes players fall out of favour, sometimes it just doesn't work.

Worries me. Lack of match fitness and a huge length of time since we picked up any points. When things aren't going well you want to move on to the next match, not have a month to dwell on it. Hopefully the 'winter break effect' will be helpful bit I'd rather have played at least one and preferably two of the festive fixtures.

On the plus side they did some spinning and boxing so the hotel had good facilities. I imagine spinning is some sort of exercise rather than producing yarn but you never know nowadays.

The tables not pretty though, Dagenham are only one point behind us now, we are only 4 points off bottom place, and a seven point gap has opened between us and sixth bottom Stevenage. I'd rather have the points than games in hand.

Dunno, on the odd occasion we get a game on we beat the league leaders. You're supposed to be light years ahead of us. Let's see!

Newport on any night is not an attractive fixture - ideally you're looking at 2½ hours in the place tops and the first train back out

there will always be the usual couple of dozen local exiles and their curious welsh mates. I counted 30odd the last time I went to the Vetch midweek (saw Porky there, first time I'd seen him since the Goldstone ground in 93 - hiya Paul :)

The league table will be putting the pressure on us now. Yes we have the games in hand, but psychologically and mathematicslly we're at the bottom of the table.
