In the season 2006/07, with Danny Wilson in charge, we had 20 points from the first 17 league games. We then went on a 23 game unbeaten run, finished second to Walsall, and were promoted.
We now have 20 points from 17 games...............................................

lets not get ahead of ourselves

we had a very good squad back then with people of the quality of porter....plus we spent was it 70k on barker in the transfer window to push us along. miles apart from current situation

Nobody is getting ahead of themselves, Mr Chunky, merely stating a few facts and asking a question.

I'd like to see us try and tie down Gray, Naismith and Mandron for the rest of the season as they will help us massively. Large parts of the game on Sunday we were poor but an improvement from the Cheltenham game. Mansfield have only won 2 out of 9 home games this season so home form not great.

We were basically a decent League One team playing in League Two, we should never have been relegated. You mention Porter he barely featured that season really such was our strength. Players like Dimi playimg in the fourth division should never have happened. Well done Martin and Ken.

Very similar situation to Leyton Orient find themselves in this year, lose the play off final when they looked set for the Championship (I think they were 2-0 up at half time) then complete balls up the following season and go from one of the promotion favorites to somehow manage to get relegated. Ring any bells!? It puts Sundays win into a bit of context really.

It's always been the case in this division that the addition of two or three decent players can transform a team.
Based purely on what I learned from the game on Sunday the current team, including the three loanees mention by Mr Mac, plus a decent left back and someone of the stature of Mirfin would turn us into a team to be reckoned with.
In that respect we would have a shout.
Any further additions, such as another quality CM, of course would further enhance our chances.
We'll get an insight into what the owners think come January.
Another thing I noticed on Sunday was we were a bit slow in pressing the ball. Orient were allowed too much time on the ball and got too many balls into the box for my liking. Just an observation like.

We always seem to be slow in pressing the ball and give teams far too much space to freely move the ball, whether its the zonal type of marking RM likes but i much prefer the man marking chasing every player with the ball.

If Mansfield still have big fat lumps playing for them then let Bingham and Mandron and Oyenuga and Gray run at the fuckers.

centre midfield as a 2 has been an issue for years for us. we consistently get over ran when we have 2 in there.

the last time i can remember us not being over ran, is the wadsworth era when we essentially had 2 holding midfielders and sweeney had a more free role to focus on his one strength of being in right place at right time and getting goals.

people can't seriously want oyenuga playing....oates is a far better choice as kudus is simply an appalling footballer.

We've had worse, he does some decent things and some terrible things in almost equal measure.

For example the cross that led to the penalty; very decent.

The shot first half that has just landed somewhere in the Wearside area; very terrible.

Oates should have started over Kudus, the fastest he ran all game was when he went to get the ball to take the penalty after that he was knackered.

Im sure a rest is doing a young lad like Oates no harm at all after being pretty much ever present and this is his first season of professional football.

I wasn't impressed with Kudos either but I have only that performance to go on. Maybe there is a more consistent footballer there somewhere and just needs bringing out. The problem is Pools can't afford to carry passengers. if Ronnie and Sam can see something there then they need to bring it out. Maybe someone like Hignett coaching him would help.

Kudus has looked very poor in the games I've seen him in (didn't make Cheltenham). Would prefer to have Oates playing.

Oates every time. He seems to have a decent footballing brain. Always looking to keep the ball going forward. Really rate him he works his socks off for the team.

That's the first time I've seen Kudos play too. Thought he showed some potential going forward, with his pace mainly but needs a lot of coaching defensively. Cant fault his effort but I remember at least three occassions where he qas trying to help out at the back and stood pointing for someone else to close down the man on the ball (his man!).

Agree with the majority about Oates though. He looks a very good prospect.

Two starts, two wins, two goals and everyone wants Kagus out of the team the poor lad

He's one of them players that you always get properly nervous about just about every time he gets near the ball anywhere on the pitch. It's like when Jan Budtz was was in goal and the opposition got within about 50 yards of our box, the counselling from that has only recently ended.

Kudos is an awful footballer, i'm sorry but he just is!

Ok I'll concede he did well to score vs Cheltenham, he took the penalty well and decent cross to help win it, but my god he is terrible in his alround game

I'm dead open to being proven wrong by the lad but he has about as much footballing sense as R2D2

Oates should play ahead of him, and it shouldnt even be a consideration in my view

Not sure why I called him Kagus, it shows that our turnover of footballers is getting ridiculous that I'm getting names wrong. Either that or I'm getting to an age were I get people's names wrong basically I'm turning into my Dad. Anyway give it a few weeks when he's a proper scapegoat hate figure people will be calling him Kackus anyway.

At least Kai Naismith looks good.

I've seen Kudus for the reserves and I think there is some promise there but weather we can get it out of him on a consistent basis I wouldn't be sure. He can grab a goal as he has in the last two games without playing particularly well so if you can get a bit more out of him apart from that then all the better. He ran at his man once or twice and beat him, he did lose it a fair few times but he keeps wanting to get it and take people on.

People say play Oates ahead of him but in his two starts he has already scored more than Oates and I don't think the rest will do him any harm at all.

I think it's more worrying that Salford have been poor at home .
