They say the FA cup is a great leveller but are Pools really worse than Notts County?

Based on what ive seen so far, we'd struggle to beat Salford

James Poole is playing well, he looks like a right gape though.

Notts County's midfield looks about as good as ours, how has Alan Smith made a living out of the game?

To be honest I'd prefer James Poole back in our side than several of the carthorses (I hate to mention names but I'm thinking of Oyenuga, Carroll, Walker, Featherstone, Worley, maybe even Oates) currently posing as professional footballers at HUFC. I've just started watching the game but the commentator says that he's stood out like a sore thumb tonight. Time and again we release half-decent players only to replace these with utter dross, players with minimal talent and hearts the size of frozen peas. 2-0 Easy peasy for Salford now - County are shite.

I presume Notts County are taking the piss bringing on that Umpa Lumpa we had on loan from Newcastle for about five minutes last season!?

What a goal that second was.

Poole was rightfully released really even though he always had obvious ability, the problem wasn't really that it's what has replaced players like him. He never consistently did enough though and we are still a poor team while he was here.

James Poole = Man of the Match against a decent Notts Co team (on paper at least). OK so he wasn't consistent whist at Pools but just how many of the current donkeys that represent Pools can we realistically say that off? I'll tell you, Trevor Carson - and possibly Magnay that's about it.

Notts County were absolute dog shite and they're only a few places ahead of us in the League. Not sure what you're trying to achieve or say here!!? None of our players, apart from two, are capable of being man of the match against Notts County  We'll file it along with the others under 'say whatever you like as long as it's negative, anything goes!!'

Poole was excellent though totally deserved man of the match. Far too talented to be playing at the level he is but maybe he's always lacked that bit of hunger? He's doing a degree it said so maybe he sees his real living away from the game. Can't be many teams at that level with that much Football League experience though they must have a decent wage bill. Not many teams will want them second round.

We never actually released Poole; he turned down an offer because he wanted to go play abroad. He had a trial with Melbourne but they didn't want it hence he has found himself dropping down so far.

If you want donkeys see Alan Smith. I'd rather have any of our players than be paying him whatever they are.

Agreed, Smith has lived off a reputation of his early career for the past 5 years or more. We offered Poole a reduced contract so you can't blame the lad for looking elsewhere - we've done the same with Franks, Compton, yes we even released Harewood (if only he'd repeated the effort over his last few games over his whole Pools career) - what I'm trying to say is this Pools squad is with one or two notable exceptions largely no better than any of the squads of the last 5-6 seasons.

Was Shearer sat in the Salford changing room talking them up...?

I bet he's on more than the 500 bar a week he was offered here at Salford!

James Poole showed glimpses early on at pools that he had something but made nearly 100 appearances and yet my main memory was the 2 goals he scored at Chesterfield. Did he have any other decent games sctatchinghead

What was he doing with that hair band though banghead

He scored a goal of the season contender against Notts County at the Vic as well.

James Poole would be fantastic at walking football. Don't think I ever seen him break into a sprint. Heart the size of a pea.

He did look good last night surrounded by amateurs and an awful county side.

Alan smith was a quality player until his serious leg injury when riise broke his leg with a shot. Never ever recovered from that.

As for Jack barmby id also have him back in a heartbeat. But frustrating at times but knew were the net was

I've never thought of him as quality player to be honest. He's always had a good attitude and nuisance factor but he started his career as a striker who barely ever scored, then ended up a holding midfielder who tried to close people down and conned the fans with a few hard tackles.

He was extremely fortunate to play at the level he did in the first place. He broke his leg badly in fairness but I always thought he was shite before that! He's played hundreds of games since, he's just been found out. Normally as well when a player who's played at the top level drops down to our level even if the legs have gone you can still see that touch of class, I've seen him a few times against Pools and he barely touches the ball, he's a complete passenger.
