If it brings in money, and we can sign a Midfield (like all 3), then no problems with that.

Why not approach Vicks Vaporub (Procter and Gamble), then we could still refer to it as the 'Vic'?

Couple of important questions -

How much? And who?

Sticking it on Twitter without saying who might be interested isn't consulting anybody, it's just trying to get approval to do whatever they like.

Enough to pay a decent player and from a reputable company in a decent line of business then OK.

Couple of grand from some loan sharks is another thing entirely.

He does further state he's canvassing opinion and they haven't started looking at it yet.

Wouldn't bother me as long as its a local reputable company like Samsung for example.

What about the IOR Arena?

Well I haven't got Twitter so I'd like him to check with me by sending a detailed handwritten letter on nice paper.

After witnessing our midfield making Barnet the worst away team in the country look like Barcelona second half any money from naming rights wants putting into the team. We don't seem to be able to find owners with money so doubt we can find someone willing to plough silly money into naming rights.

Will it be used for players though or creamed off like the transfer money?

I wish people would stop calling Samsung local, they're in South Korea not North Korea.

What the ground is officially called is irrelevant locally, it will always be 'Pools'. If the club can make some money by calling it the 'World's Biggest Company Arena' or even 'Mucky Marys Stadium' for all I care then damn right, take the money. A division four club needs sponsorship to be successful.

They going to ask Fans to sponsor the ground at £5 each for a 1cm piece of concrete and they will read the person name out over the tannoy when a Jake Carroll corner hits it.

Only the dimmest football fans would object

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/fa ... ium-429334

It's the Vic, always has been, always will be, a sponsor is a short to medium case injection for having there name used instead of the Vic, but it will still be the Vic and it there wasn't a willing sponsor, would go back to the Vic. One of the only exceptions I can think of is 'the Emirates' because they got it from new, I've never heard anybody call it Ashburton Grove, is that what its really called anyway?

I've got no problem with the principle of getting some extra cash, like several people have said nobody pays much attention to the new names anyway. Still, I'd genuinely like to know whether it actually raises much money and there are businesses I wouldn't want the club to take money from. without that sort of information I can't see how any consultation matters.

Apologies in advance for having the cheek to reply to your message as you are obviously so bright and I am dimmer than dim, but unless we were getting serious money, or if the name was being changed to something cringeworthy such as The Brains Faggots Park then I would object.

Out of curiosity, how much do people think the going rate should be for a fourth division team to sell their soul?

No need to apologise Kev, name your price. I'd think anything over 40k a year at our level, just a guess, dunno.

But what difference does it really make to us, the fans? You would not be forced to use the new name, you'd still say Pools are playing at the Vic. The club website and match day programme would reflect the name change, so would any television reports, but so what?

The Greggs Victoria Park would do for me, with all kiosks selling sausages rolls and steak bakes.

Wonder how much of a say the council would have in the re-branding of their stadium.

Up until a few weeks ago a certain company might have liked the naming rights, the same one who have a stand named after them although I am not allowed to mention their name on here.

The Bunker Trust Clique Stadium, just take a small withdrawal from the account but make sure there is enough for our lobster on Saturday.

Would that allow Mr I to arrive on the pitch in the Trust helicopter just before kick off? I'm sure he'd allow the Trust spokesman to ride along with him.

Win David Hodgson's new book: 'David Hodgson, Three Times a Quaker'

From a happy childhood in the heart of the working class North East, David Hodgson became one of the most enigmatic footballers produced by this football mad area.

There's not many compulsive talkers get described as enigmatic mind.

Listening to the the stream of consciousness bullshit Once Twice Three Times a Quacker Hodgie used to come out with was almost entertaining.

And if this happens we will find out whether Coxalls mob believe in reinvestment on the pitch.

I was all for this but I heard Accrington's ground referred to as the 'Wham Stadium' on Tuesday night and now that name is already taken I see little point.

Is it really called that? The fucking WHAM stadium. Mind it's that quiet and the game was that drab the last time I went I said to my mate "wake me up before we go go" bbolt I'm sort of with Mr Ripper on this, it's as tacky as fook but at the end of the day it will always be the Vic and if it brings in decent coin it's hard to say no. I wouldn't want us to sell our soul cheaply though, unless the name is mildy amusing.

The Lawrence Arena would be a fitting tribute to everyone's favourite character. Or maybe could become the 'Nou Can Stadium' in honour of the gadgie behind the can house who has just passed away. Cover every surface with alternating Fosters and Carling cans to create blue and white stripes everywhere.

But it does make a difference even if you and I still call it The Vic. What about my boys, the eldest knows it is The Vic but he's only 6 and if they change the name now then him and his mates will probably forget the real name and use the "official" one. As for my youngest, he hasn't been to his first match yet so would probs be even more influenced by a name change. And after a while all the kids call it something different and we lose its real name over time. So if that could happen I would want us to be getting proper maga bucks in at least 6 figures a season or just not bother.

Why don't we call it the Ken Hodcroft Stadium?
It wouldn't generate any cash but if things get really bad it will cheer us up to remember that at least he didn't manage to buy it.

TBF Mr Ripper you have sort of answered your own question! If Dad's, Mam's, brothers, sisters, Aunties and Uncle's etc all call it the Vic, then surely the Kids will too. Remember its always known as the Vic whereas sponsors change every few years.
