My eldest is going away for a week with my mam and my sister's twins. They are a couple of years older than him, and spend a lot of time on their DS.

I fancy getting him one so he isn't left out, but as I am an owld bastard I know nowt about them.

Can they all participate in the same game on them? Like all three of them would be able to race each other or whatever? If so, is the 2 version compatible with the 3 version?

Is there anything else I should know about them?

The 2ds does everything a standard 3ds does apart from the 3d. However just to be confusing nintendo have now released a "new" 3DS. This has slightly better hardware and capable of running games better. So far all games run on all models but I think in the future there will be new 3ds only games. The 2ds and older 3ds and new 3ds are as it stands al lcompatible with each other and all the games that are released though.

the 3d element is poor anyway, just makes it annoy your eyes.

The R4 doesn't work with 3D games or something.

The 3D on the newer one is a lot better, the camera tracks your eyes to enable you to move your head and have the same effect.

You can use an R4 in a 3DS or 2DS but you can only get normal DS games to play on an R4. Why this stuff is so complicated I'll nerve know after the SNES and PS1 I got lost.
