Or did I miss the episode between Harold Hornsey and IOR where we nearly went bust?

Chris Turner, whilst I'm grateful for him saving us from relegation and turning us into playoffs, seems to have gone bonkers in recent times.

It's very good of him to take credit for all of our on field success

Harold Hornsey was a good man but he didn't really have the money to bankroll a football club he knew that and found some people who could so I suppose we weren't truly financially stable until IOR bought the club.

It's an interesting article especially the bit about Berge Larsen, as suspected and has been said for years it's his non involvement with the club after his erm tax problems that have directly coincided with downturn in the teams fortunes.

“From 2007 onwards it was tougher to get budgets and players and various managers have found it difficult."

No chris thats the location.

From 2007 hartlepool moved to the north east and no ones wanted to play for us since.

Was that around the same time VAT was introduced?

Yeah and we signed left footed strikers like Behan.

May I apologise on behalf of my father. He's probably drunk.

Do left footed strikers incur more VAT then? No wonder we never got a decent one.

That was Danny Wilsons baby. He signed Danny Coles to deal with the LDB.

But as Chris Turner has taken credit for the entire period between 1999-2007 (apart from 2005/06 which he has distanced himself from) I suppose you're right.

To be fair, the “Financially the club was struggling badly [when IOR came in]” bit he refers to was before his time here, so he probably just pulled the statement straight out of his arse.
If I recall correctly, Mr Hornsey chose IOR after much deliberation, not as a last gasp rescue. There again I was getting my updates from the Sunday papers those days, so I could be talking out of my arse too.

That was my logic.

Who are the players he signed that helped us have 6/7/8 years of success?

For me Kevin Henderson was a good signing at the time. Honest, reliable, didn't shirk, wasn't intimidated and scored 17 league goals 2000-2001 - nearly three times as many as last season's top scorers.
As Pools progressed and strikers like Gordon Watson, Eifion, Boydy, Gabbiadini (briefly), erm Marcus Richardson, Joel Porter came in, we thought we'd left honest foot soldiers like Hendo behind... but we'd have been glad of a Kevin Henderson in any of the last three seasons.

Turner's first spell was great. You can't blame him from taking the job at Sheffield Wednesday, but I don't think he recovered from it. Did dreadfully with Stockport, who started playing brilliantly after he left, then scraped along with Pools for a bit until he was royally conned along with Russ into that Wednesday takeover consortium palaver.

I was over the moon he left at that point, Mick the Man showed what the squad could do with a bit of nouse.

Since then he's taken credit for all of the success Pools enjoyed, but never admitted to any poor signings or bad decisions.
