Gotta give the guy credit. He has almost single handedly instilled hatred by one sizeable town, possibly two, toward another.
That is power whichever way you look at it.

Just to play devils advocate a little, if Pools had a supporter as passionate as him on the radio with as much airtime wouldn't we think the guy was great?

Being bitter towards Radio Tees because Pools don't get enough coverage fair enough but I don't think that's down to Brownlee.

Maybe I've got a different perspective because I am a bit of a half breed with a Middlesbrough mam. My Dads family all from Hartlepool and I have supported Pools and Pools only from the age of 4 in the 70's. However I spent all my older schooling in Middlesbrough when my parents moved there and too a man all my Boro supporting mates genuinely want Pools to do well. The odd time I've been to watch Boro if Pools have been winning when the results have been read out they cheer.

The hatred of Boro on here I don't feel although my old man doesn't agree he thought it was hilarious yesterday

If we had a commentator who did the Brazilian style 'goooooaaaaalllllll' thing when we scored in a pre season friendly against a team two divisions below us I'd almost certainly think he was a bellend.

HTH.

Ah yes well that's a fair point, although I think it's valid regardless of the opposition

He does get a bit carried away when boro score.
But i think he was very supportive of pools in our great escape as were the rest of the bbc tees pundits.
Apart from the boro hour i think the coverage for pools is quite good on bbc tees.
I think our own radio hartlepool dont know we have a football team.

Yeah, can't get much worse than a biased presenter on local radio, other than maybe a biased presenter on a nationwide T.V sports show.
Imagine that, some twat screaming for your team on T.V, not giving a toss about the rest of the division, or country for that matter.
Fucking shocking that would be.

Just a token gesture IMO.
Tees won an award for their coverage when they covered our last crisis, yet dropped us like a stone right after. Ideal chance for them to give extra coverage to the only team they really want to cover.

Brownlee was a banker with Barclays in Redcar.

Do I need to add anything else?

Try comparing like with like. One promotes his team occasionally and usually in humorous self deprecating way. The other is a driven, constant promoter of his team who relentlessy monopolises any opportunity to big them up and has an uncanny knack to be able to turn up at whichever broadcaster is covering his team and take over.

Don't forget, if we'd ended up in the Conference this year our days on the radio would be over.

Bet he was using all his connections to avoid having to pay to watch Boro during that year Tees were covering them while he was still stuck at Century!
