It's full of Polish farmworkers, local pigfarmers and flower growers, although Lincoln itself is a nice City. They do make excellent sausages also.

I've never lived there but I've been to lots of places lots of times there.

It depends what you're after really, if you like rural then there's loads of villages to chose from, ditto nice little market towns. Then you've got the 'resorty' type places on the coast. Lincoln itself is really nice, a bit like a smaller less touristy York.

I didn't think much to Gainsborough when we played them there, and Boston seems a bit isolated for my liking. Grimsby doesn't look up to much, and Scunny has seen better days too. Stamford has a 'posh' reputation but is a bit pretentious for my liking.

One thing I really advise is to avoid Grantham. I've worked there, and my sister in law has worked there for the last 5 years. Pretty much everyone she works with commutes there from Nottingham or Lincoln. It really is depressing.

If I had to choose somewhere it would be Lincoln itself.

If you're looking at rural then Louth is meant to be a nice little place. John Shuttlewoth (Jilted John) lives there. Mablethorpe attracts a lot of retired folk so might be right up your mam's street.

The native Lincolnshire curly haired pig, died out due to supermarkets etc wanting quick growing meatier pigs. However they were re introduced in the form of a "cousin" from Austria or Germany if I remember correctly.. As I haven't put FACT at the end I may be wrongish!

Just for info Mr Elkots so you can look knowledgeable to the locals.

I love in Lincoln now. Really nice place, not too big or too small and is the centre of the county so lots going on. House prices are not much higher than Hartlepool. The city feels a bit like York but not as expensive. Please there are at least two Poolies in the city. I keep seeing a lad walking down Newark Road in a pools shirt with Boyd on the back.

My brother lives in Grantham. A bit more rough round the edges but house prices really cheap. Gainsborough is the same.

Lincoln is a nice place.

Lincolnshire reminds me of a mini version of the american deep south.

Deliverance country

Very few major roads and consequently takes an age to drive through. It doesn't look that big on a map but it's like a feckin rural Tardis.

Woodhall Spa is nice, been to a camping site round there. Bit posh mind and house prices are a bit steep but looks a nice place to retire. Decent golf course too.

When I lived in Nottinghamshire, I used to drive to Lincoln quite a lot, as there's a decent band scene, craft shops, book shops, record shops, decent grub and some very good pubs.

The traffic system is a right 'lovely lovely person'.

All British sausages are shite* once you've eaten any half decent furrin ones with an actual measurable quantity of meat in them, so I'd avoid using sausages as a criterion.

*FACT

Obviously been a while since you ate a decent sausage here then, they still have the Richmond type of pureed shite, however the coarse sausages with 95% pig are superb, next time your over here, go to Lee meats on Chatham rd and try his, I will provide the black pudding bread as a wrap around

Just been to the Peak District for a week and probably visited two dozen different towns and villages, and I have to say it has very much caught my eye as a dwelling place. Very pleasant although obviously it was red hot. It is a fairly bleak place in winter but the market towns look fantastic little places to live.

"retire" lots of young families here the missus has made friends within two days, We've got everything here although can be a bit expensive but the facilities for kids are out of this world for a small rural village, outdoor heated swimming pool and kinema in the woods and not forget the golf for me. terrific :-D

Went camping there two years ago,,, glorious first day then it was like two days on the Russian front circa1944...... followed by the retreat from Moscow to Chesterfield, never again..... the tractor recovery was particularly enchanting.

I lived in Sleaford for a number of years teaching at St Georges school. I went back earlier this year and the place has certainly changed for the better. They even have a wetherspoons based at the old lion hotel. Happy days.

Be careful where you live in Lincoln. Yes it has some nice bits and a great Christmas market but there are some hellhole estates there too. As for the county; its a great big field with occasional Lithuanians.

Even the roughest estates in Lincoln are not as bad as some parts of Hartlepool. I love my home town but bloody hell it needs some TLC here and there.

Hartlepool has some dodgy areas but no worse than St Giles, Ermine and Birchwood. Hartlepool just seems to have more than our fair share of nutters and the brain dead.

I lived on the Ermine for 5 years and our lass has worked in Birchwood for ten. It may just be the nutter/brain dead factor.

I'd imagine hellhole estates were way down the list for people looking to move.
There again I guess that depends on where they are to start with.

Anyone here play Geoguessr? English towns on the whole must be among the ugliest in the UE. About on a par with Bulgaria. Although if pushed I'd prolly give Bulgaria the edge.

Everywhere has its shite areas, but the key for me is how good the nicer bits are.

At one end of the scale you've got London, where the contrast between rich and poor is huge and really unhealthy, whereas places like Lincoln seem to have a much better balance.

It would be nice if there were no shite areas anywhere, but while public services are getting cut through the bone they're only going to increase in size and number.
