At the risk of starting another thread that will get some other gnashing their teeth about how negative The Bunker is towards the club even though we are all a series of individuals expressing our own opinions....

To start, I can totally understand the original euphoria when we survived and for sure the feelings at the Exeter game were as strong as any I can remember supporting Pools and as a one off event is up there with any day we have ever had.

However now the dust has settled I'm actually genuinely finding this ongoing 'Great Escape' mythology embarrassing and a little cringeworthy. It's like celebrating being utter crap and not admitting how bad we are and how much we need to improve.

I had a look at the club website and it's swarming with articles more buoyant than when we got promotion and the FB page is still buzzing with it, exciting as it was it's not something to celebrate now things have calmed down. Strong and successful clubs would have dusted themselves off, apologized for the shite and made a clear statement of intent that they would make plans to ensure it didn't happen again. We've heard positive vibes from the Manager so far at least.

Let's see what close season brings, my instinct is more of the same but there is always hope for a change and by god am I hoping!!

Exactly, the club are celebrating like we've just gained promotion. No apology from Ken/Russ, just the usual shifting of blame. Yes it was the great escape but draw a line under it and show some ambition for next season.

The club have a huge opportunity to build momentum now. Will they do it though?

They did something similar after Cardiff.

I remember us all discussing how the club had a huge opportunity to build momentum then.

Nothing happened for a good 6 weeks.

It was a huge missed opportunity.

And we got relegated the following season.

Ronnie Moore needs to be putting pressure on them now, and get things moving now.

Lets see what happens.

If someone made a documentary film on the highlights of the 2004-5 season (they might have done for all I know), they'd need to do some pretty serious editing to get it to fit inside an hour.

That's what you call a memorable season.

How much time could you fill with a documentary on the highlights of the great escape?

All I know is that with a terribly shite squad a good manager produced mid table form . There's nothing to suggest that we can't at least produce the same over a full season next year.

If he can get the right signings we might even flirt briefly with the playoffs. That's about as good as we can hope for with the current owners

Like many others I was that overwhelmed that we got out of it that after the Exeter game I could have cried.

That emotion turned into relief.

A week later I recognised that coming third bottom of the football league can't be seen as an on-going celebration, and I have just been praying since that Ronnie gets some tools to work with next season so we don't have to go through it again.

Great post,I hope so too.Never want a season like last one and Ron has gone on record to say he has told club whats needed. No magic wand we know that.

I did cry with relief and celebrated staying up but not the football we had dished up.

The mythical great escape. I remember a quotefrom Churchill on Dunkirk, another great escape of which he said....We must be very careful not to assign to this deliverance the attributes of a victory. Wars are not won by evacuations...how apt, change 'war' for 'promotion' and 'just avoiding relegation' for 'evacuation' and it just about sums it up.

I was going to say after the past few seasons it would be suicidal not to invest, but I keep getting flashes of an uncommunicative Easter Island statue gazing to the far horizon in silence and stonily ignoring all going on around it.

I think likening the charisma of the Easter Island statues to that of Ken is a bit unfair on the statues

I too shed a few tears of relief that we somehow managed to survive. Still don't know if You Ron Ron will be able to do anything with "The Odd Couple" ruling the pay deals . Surely some transfer monies are now free of FFP rules by now and we can invest in decent players- not cast offs, old journeymen and wannabe academy players with more hair gel than guts. Big chance for us to put a lid on the last few seasons and start putting a bit of pride back in to our club . HUFC4EVA
