As well as being marked by Poolies, the playoff final is also being marked in Sheffield, and we at Monkey Business have received an email (see below) from Danny Gooderson of Owls Alive (owlsalive.com), about what that website is planning to do. They are interested in hearing Poolies' reminiscences, good or bad, on the whole experience, and comments about how things have gone since then.

If anyone wants to contribute anything, could they please email Danny via the Owls Alive website. Alternatively you could send it to us at Monkey Business (bizzonline@hotmail.co.uk) to forward to Danny.

Hi Guys.

I work for a small Sheffield Wednesday fansite called Owls Alive - the 10th anniversary of the playoff final in Cardiff is approaching and we're looking to do a series of articles about our experiences back then.

Given you were a massive part of that day, we're also looking for a Hartlepool perspective of that day and perhaps a little bit more.

If your site can help me or point me in the direction of someone who can it'd be muchly appreciated.

Essentially we're looking for a Hartlepool fan's perspective of the game, Sheffield Wednesday at the time, Hartlepool United at the time, how you felt after the game and your experiences as a club since that fateful day in the ten years since especially given our two club's contrasting fortunes since.

Be honest, forthright and don't hold back on fear of upsetting some of our fans!

Thank you for your help.

Regards

Danny @OwlsAlive

Shit first half
We got better, had them against the ropes
Dive
Useless ref
Fell apart
Went home
The end

We got a train back to Bristol - it was chocker.

The Wednesday fans were verging on miserable; the Poolies were still buzzing.

My 11 year old son said 'why aren't they celebrating, they won!' Great question which I couldn't answer then and still can't ...... other than 'they knew they should have lost'.....

Ref spoilt the day.

Having looked at the tv "evidence" hundreds of times I still can't understand what the penalty was for.

We were robbed.

You actually saw a replay? They only showed 1 didn't they? Totally glossed over the fact it was an awful decision.

Wasn't their a letter delivered to the club before hand saying we would lose to an awful decision etc? Could maybe mention that to the sheff wed guy

I had it on tape to watch the next day when I got home (No sky HD boxes back then)

Just kept rewinding it and rewinding it to try and see something but just couldn't see anything to justify why the ref gave it.

I still to this day call Drew Talbot a cheating little c*** every time he steps on the Vic. It was nice to get an opportunity to last season in a game we won!

I feel a bit sick in my mouth about the Boro getting to a play off final but I'm pleased for Dimi that he'll be playing in another one ten years on.

I hope he's entirely blameless for 14 goals Boro concede.

Further to the original request, I've been advised that anyone wanting to write anything for Owls Alive's anniversary commemoration needs to get it to them by Tuesday 26th May. Their publication date is Friday 29th May. See first post above for contact details.
