Maybe Ken and Russ and waiting for the election result as that is clearly pivotal to the future of the club....

I mentioned this on another post and someone mentioned the players have already been told whose staying and whose leaving, on Tuesday I think they said.

It does seem daft when we were told last week that it would be released this week and still nothing.

Someone probably threw the keyboard out the window to stop Ken posting things on the Website. Now they are waiting on a replacement to arrive.

Maybe Russ is waiting for some of the longer serving players to go on holiday so he can bin them by text message as Hodcroft sits near stroking a cat?

If the players knew on Tuesday you would expect something to come out on social media and someone on here to share it.

It says on here that talks are continuing with the last few players. Probs trying to work out how to get rind of some more deadwood that have longer on their contracts.

"The Club will not be announcing a retained list in order to cut costs. To find out who we have kept, we would advise strongly to purchase a season ticket and we'll whisper it in your ear once full payment is received.

The Club will be making no further comment at this time."

Well if its not out today then there must be something RONNIE and hodcroft cant agree on.

Cant see RONNIE taking any shit as he will have a queue of clubs wanting his services.

Anything can happen with pools when ior are still at the helm.

They wont announce the retained list until they've hired a temp to tell the departing players they are fired.

Or quite simply, Hodcroft has told Ronnie no one is to be released, because they are all legends. Remember they all helped with the great escape.

In the past few years we have announced our retained list and then news of players offered new deals has came out in drips and drabs so maybe Ronnie just wants it all doing in one batch to get it out of the way and move forward knowing what we need instead of being messed about?

If its not that then I dread to think what's taking so long

Well business as usual, this week already heard that players won't move north, young players rather than experience, wanting 9 new players which has quickly been downgraded to 5 or 6 and we'll be using the loan system. Not really filling me with confidence that Ken has learnt anything from last season(s).

Can kens biggest supporters really stand by the club if we have another summer of no signings, loans and keeping the dross?

We need 8/9 new players or we will be down at the bottom again, no doubt about it.

Considering we have lost 8 players already before we even cut the squad id say we need a damn sight more than 8 not 5 or 6 loanees. This is hodcrofts last chance saloon and already going by moores comments it looks like he lost in the battle of the boardroom with hodcroft

I think a lot of our fan's totally underestimate just how difficult it is to attract players to come to Pools. Firstly if they don't have a previous North East connection of some sort they're reluctant to come at all.
Generally it's either players from up here who are homesick or their spouses/girlfriends are. They must be prepared to take a pay cut. We did have (and still to some extent) a large contingent who travel up from the Yorkshire area, so unless they're prepared to commute they're out. The fact we train at Houghall at Durham is a big plus for obvious reason's, a lovely setting on the edge of a beautiful city.
What we need to brush up on is the number of players from up here who slip through the net, or the number of players we spend a lot of time and money bringing through given more game time. We seem to be addressing the latter point of late thankfully.
I reckon the only way we can attract players from further afield or higher league's is to try and match wages, so possibly a smaller squad next season with more players out than in, or an owner/investors with deep pockets.
It's not easy though. Fortunately we do have a good reputation for treating loan players from higher league clubs quite well, so this may again work for us next season. You do need to get in quick though to tie up the experienced loanee's, not the inexperienced kid's we've had to endure last couple of season's.

Ps pay the money, they'll come.

People forget, no fucker moves up here n lives in hartlepool, they aren't holed up in a 2 bed semi in winterbottom avenue.

They go to Durham or Newcastle, live there n train in Durham, live a great life with a flat on the quayside.

But obviously if you offer a few hundred quid a week they aren't gunna fancy the grim north are they.

We had no problems attracting people north until about 2009.

Funny that

Yes the 70s n 80s when we were shite n paid peanuts, fancy that!

we paid decent money 10 year ago n had the players to show.

Now we dont and people wont come.

It's as simple as that.

Its only about 5 year back that Chris Turner signed about 4 billion players from all over the fucking place. In fact if you look at Turners 2 spells at the club, he signed players from Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Southern Ireland, Scandanavia, Down South, The Midlands, just about everywhere.

As has been said, if you pay the money, players will come. Gordon Watson was born in Kent and had been at Bournemouth and Portsmouth before he came to Pools.

Excuse my 'selective memory' but I seem to remember we only got Watson because he'd been crocked a couple of times, had received a large insurance pay-out and was a good friend and ex-player with Humphries. He continued to live on the South Coast while with us, trained with Southampton during the week and flew up for home games.

As for splashing the cash, we'd throw about the odd 60k now and again but it's not as if we were the 'Bank of England'. In fact if you could equate which Football League team has spent the least on player transfers in the last 50 years I'd hazard a guess we'd be that team, and by a good distance. Why do you think we have ex-players with biographies titled 'A tenner and a box of kippers'. Which does make it all the more astonishing and satisfying that we have managed to survive.
Yes I also want our owners to dig deep into their pockets, but I keep hearing people say 'we should never let ourselves get into this position again', unless Ronnie is very shrewd (and I think he is) we may have to cruise the loan system again next season or maybe some of our main sponsors can make some hefty funds available for 'transfers/new players only'

Yeah i am and i'm telling you once again this 'we cant attract players up north' argument, has only just started to be peddled out by pools managers, chris turner and neale cooper had no problem getting lads up to the north east as the club paid a good wage.

Jon bass was a brummy, taffy williams welsh, darrell clarke from mansfield way, joel porter from aus, dimi from greece, would you like me to name another 20/30 players that danny wilson had no problem bringing in from all over the country?

To me it is not about 'digging deep into their pockets' or making 'hefty funds available for transfers', it is about using the existing income to have a competitive wage budget instead of inexplicably hiding behind FFP.

Paying transfer fee's would be nice, and I understand why some fans may expect it with the Luke James and Jack Baldwin cash, but I think we have a manager who get a competitive team together on half decent free transfers if this cash and other income was used towards having a sensible wage budget.

The playing budget has been drastically slashed over several seasons, its pretty evident what will happen if its cut even further this year. Surely if IOR need to save more money they should look at making efficiency savings in our ludicrously high administrative costs. As has been said above if the wage structure is sensible and Ronnie has full control on comings and goings we should have a competitive albeit mid table team.

So our Manager (Ronnie Moore) was quoted the other week as saying 'we have trouble attracting players up here, why I don't know?' .........are you calling him a liar?

I don't think some people are get it.

It's a struggle to get players to come to the north east for the money we are offering now.

When Chris Turner was here Ken Hodcroft for whatever reason fully supported Chris Turner, not with big transfer fees but with good wages.

We were bringing players in on the bosman rule offering good wages.

I can recall managers occasionally commenting they clubs couldn't compete with the wages Hartlepool were offering, that's how we did it then.

Before anybody comments I'm not talking about the Sheffield type clubs I'm talking about the average size clubs who were in the lower divisions then.

Current squad birthplaces show that players come from all over the place:

Barnsley
Stockton
Slough
Torquay
Germany
Goole
Rotherham
Hampstead
Middlesbrough
South Africa
Bishop Auckland
Easington
Sheffield
Newham
Pocklington
Billingham
Durham

Pools have training facilities equal or better than most clubs and the players have the pick of places to live in easy reach of them. Things that will put off new signings is money, league position, the manager and the ambition of the owners.
