Just got back to Maidstone one word sums this performance up shocking!

Mirfin has been a rock whenever I have seen us this season. With him missing the house of cards came tumbling down.

The weaknesses were in first half the defence was not compact enough and close enough together in the middle. Every watched for the first, further bad defending for the second what looked like a legitimate goals chalked off for off side and two great stops by Flinders. Further inability to clear the ball led to their third after Pools only spell of pressure.

Attacking wise we relied on long diagonal balls against a grey haired 32 year old McNutly, whose waist line is certainly more expansive than his age! For him to play professional football sums up the paucity of talent at this level yet we pumped long balls at him. The only football was Duckworth running and passing it to Harewood's feet who held it up well and showed his old position of right wing from premier league may still be OK for him by forcing corners and pulling back some crosses.
Up top Hugill and Fenwick were northern league standard and rightly hooked.

Flinders 6 2 good stops first half and three good punches from corners maybe could have reacted quicker to first goal but so could the 3 defenders close to him
Duckworth 6 competent and played at right back
Harrison 5 least composed performance I have seen him have and not close enough to Jones so too big a gap in centre of defence
Jones 5 ditto
Austin 5 ditto and could not pass wind but not surprising as not a left back - we have this before about players from Matty, Richie et al ......
Featherstone 5 not in the game much some nice sideways balls in our second half
Tsihbola 4 gave away penalty and no real effective distribution when on the ball
Franks 5 not in the game
Hugill 4 if the portly defender has him in his ample back pocket nuff said
Fenwick 4 2 good fouls very little else
Marlon 7 If Marlon is your best player it says smoothing, he tried but looked most effective with balls played into feet by Duckworth and second half on the right wing

Subs

Jones 4 tried to run and cross but nothing came off
Nelson Abby Dabby Dooo or whatever he is called 5 tried and showed intelligence but needed a more expansive passing side to get into the game when stuck on left wing. He looks lean and like a footballer so I remain positive about him

For next Saturday Mirfin and zimmer frame and 3 in centre of midfield please let us be tight to break down even at home because with 1 goal in 4 games our limitations are there for all to see!

Surely by the law of averages Tranmere and Cheltenham must have one or two last hurrahs in them!

Having only listened to the game, I thought flinders would have been head and shoulders above anyone in the ratings for Pools in this game!!!!
But you where there, just wondered if he was really as bad as the rest.....sounded like he saved us from a trouncing!!

Flinders was excellent especially first half with two top drawer saves the first one on one and the other low to his left maybe I have been a tad harsh but Marlon surprised me and as a football purist I like it on the deck and on the rare occasions it was Marlon's control and lay off was good. The trouble is we have had very little on the deck alls eason.

In truth it was a performance of Conference relegation zone standard!

Can't argue with the above. I didn't go there today expecting a result, far from it, but I did go there thinking we'd be hard to break down. One thing Ronnie has managed in his time here has to make sure that if we do lose it's by the odd goal. I know we are toothless up front and lord knows we never looked like really troubling the keeper today but I was so shocked by the way we were torn open today.

Yes the defence were poor but I'd also single out the midfielders. Luton were able to break with an awful lot of pace as they beat our midfield so easily. Fair play to Luton, they looked sharp up front.

On a side note, there was a point in the first half where Marlon beat their fat lump at the back to the ball despite Marlon starting about 10 yards behind him. It's criminal that we couldn't get the ball in behind him because even if a Franks had to go the long way round (he was as wide as he was tall) he'd have crucified him for pace.

Funny to come away from the game pleased but I had to smile. Firstly at singing Bob Marley for the last 10 and secondly because the other two piss poor teams in our league lost their most winnable remaining games. But I was brought straight back down to earth outside witnessing some appalling racism from a Pools fan and although it was only one fan suddenly I wished I was anything but a Pools fan.

I didn't go yesterday as was spent up after York.......been 3 or 4 times previously and we got spanked every time from memory. One game was pre-season friendly about 20 yrs ago on the plastic pitch when Steve Jones was in goal and am sure we got beat 5 or 6 confised

Re the racist, surprised he didn't get lynched, the guy must be a complete moron. That part of Luton has a very high population of Asians and dare I say it, if some of the local youth had seen/heard what was said, the guy would have got a hiding.

If I was of a different mindset I would have knocked him out myself. I thought we'd seen the back of it. It's never pleasant to hear but there was something about him doing it in a Pools shirt that really got me down because there were so many Luton fans around and it's more than enough to give us a reputation.

There were also police officers around doing absolutely nothing but I guess they'd rather get paid to wander around then actually confront someone.
