I just fleetingly met a bloke who's 3rd ever game was New Brighton v Hartlepool in approx 1946.

I looked it up on your web site as I had never heard of the club. He explained that New Brighton is on Merseyside and used to be a sort of seaside holiday resort apparantly.

On your site it has their ground as 'unknown'. He says they used to play at the 'Tower Ground', which fits with a Wiki page that says New Brighton AFC and New Brighton Tower both played at the Tower Athletic Ground. The town had a mini Blackpool Tower. I don't know whether this is accurate enough to add the info to the records or indeed if the ground was missing for a particular reason that I haven't thought of. I would not be so presumptious as to suggest it is an omission.

Out of interest his first game was Everton v Tranmere at Goodison and his 2nd game was England v Liverpool at Anfield which was some kind of victory game during or at the end of the war.

Wonder if it was the game in 1947 between New Brighton and Pools which featured the oldest ever player to feature in a F/L game ... Neil McBain, 51 years, who played in goal for them due to a goalkeeping crisis at the club.

Wasn't it Scunny who took New Brighton's place in the league?
