Post subject: Pot House on Friday
PostPosted: Wed May 30, 2007 5:05 pm
Anyone know anything about this folk night at the Pot House on June 1st?
Have they done it before and if so, is it any good?

While I'm on, anyone going to the Croxdale folk w/e later in the month?
On the Sat (23rd June) there'll be a workshop to try out folk instruments and I am going:sweeeet: to try a bodhran

can't help with any pot house news, sorry

but, just thought i'd say that i went to the nursery for the first time in about 20 years on monday night and listened to 3 gadgees doing a bit of folk stuff and it was one of the best nights out i've had in a long time - really enjoyed it.

until me and my brother went in the music room, the performers outnumbered the audience...but still a real eyeopener, and i'm not exactly a folkie fan meself. the strongarm was spot on too.

That's interesting, And. I'd heard the Nursery folk club had started up again. Used to be a bit more packed than that tho

No one I have ever spoken to can give a definitive answer but the most common answers you get back are
A) Because of its close proximity to the sea/quay pot house has some connection with Lobster/Crab pots?
B) Many moons ago the outside used to have a mosaic effect with hundreds of multi coloured little "pot" tiles thus the Pot House

Which one is correct if any I don't know?

Oh well, that looks OK. Might try it
What happened to you on sun'der, then?

In answer to grave, something to do with lobster pots, wasn't it? in the days when the headland had a fishing industry

That will be the Middlesbrough Live thingy then Salty. Is this your debut as a solo artist then?

Just had a scan of the site and there looks to be some canny acts on. I have recently heard some of The Films stuff which is good and also Ross Copperman. The Twang seem to be doing something right as well.

the band of three young lads started this a few weeks ago never been yet but know two of them one is a blind key board player ex english martyrs david eagle and the other is a son of the st begas head master
seem to be doing ok for a new band

for mr hogan the pot house is so called because under that tacky sixties mosaic tiles is a beautiful shiny red engineering brick built building that some daft brewry executive thought it would be nice to cover with mosaic he had left off a job
it is like an old fashioned deep maroon red highly glazed brick hence the pot house like a tea pot
